I have been in such a baking mood lately. Not good for the waistline but fun. Someone gave me some Amish Friendship bread starter so I have been adding things and stirring it for the last ten days. You have to check things off as you go along, at least I do.
Today was the final day to bake off the two tempting loaves. You can add any number of different things and this time I added raisins as the Hubs likes them in bread.
Also made some pumpkin muffins, got the recipe out of my new cookbook and they are YUMMY! Very moist and soft inside, melt in your mouth!
As I was working around in the kitchen I noticed some goings on out on the deck. I had to grab my camera and get some pictures of Munchkin and the squirrels who by nature are supposed to be mortal enemies. Guess not.
Oh my, she is surrounded by squirrels, I counted six!!
Also just beyond the fence were the two yearling deer peeking though the fence. I love wildlife!
Made a frantic trip to the lake this afternoon. The propane company called and said when the driver stopped to fill the tank it was empty. And as there was no one there he could fill the tank but he had to shut it off. I guess it's a law. Go figure. So before the tank could be turned back on I had to go down and check inside and make sure everything was okay. As most of you know we lost our whole cottage last winter due to frozen and broken water pipes that poured water through the place totally destroying it. This was going through my mind all the way down. I really didn't want to face that issue again.
Thankfully things were fine inside and the heat came on immediately after turning the tank back on. I had them change our deliveries to every three weeks instead of every four. I think that brutally cold weather that we had a few weeks ago must have blown through propane much quicker then normal. The heat is kept on 60* and was only down to 54* so it couldn't have been off long. I came home a happy woman!! :o)

That cat surrounded by squirrls is the funniest thing I have seen all day..and a deer too..my oh my, what a zoo! ;D
Loved the photos of the cat and her friends.
I can never get my camera fast enough to catch the deer that pass through here.
Happy to hear that all was fine at the lake cabin.I can just imagine the thoughts going through your mind.
Have a great weekend.
I can't imagine what was going through your mind as you drove down to the cabin. Glad everything turned out okay. What a scare!
Munchkin looks like he might be a little intimidated with all of those squirrels. I would say he is certainly outnumbered.
I have some of the starter in my freezer. They passed it out at the quilt guild meeting. I should make some more bread. If I do, we will only eat it. I will make it when the kids come to visit!!!
Have a wonderful weekend. xox
Yeah, I think Munchkin is just totally outnumbered and figures the odds are against him. He'll never win that war. Also, I'd personally hate it if my cat killed squirrels. They're cute even if they can be a pest.
So glad your cottage didn't suffer any damage, especially since you just got it fixed up again.
I baked Amish bread over ten years ago. I didn't know you could freeze the starter. I got tired of keeping it going so finally just used it all up as we were being overrun by loaves of bread.
I had a starter package for the Amish bread once. My kids thought it was the coolest thing...and so did I. :) Very tasty, too.
We see deer in our back yard, which in on the wetlands. I can watch through my windows forever. They are the most beautiful creatures.
Thought about you this morning as I was headed to my houseback riding lesson. My daughter was out of school, so she rode, too. Only three students today...it was the most fun; both of us got to do some jumping!
Glad things are well with your cottage.
Your blog always makes me think I should find more time to bake. My mouth is watering just looking at those pics. Cute loaf pans too.
I'm sure it was a relief to find the cabin ok. That was quite a project last year. I'd have been worried too.
Still ruminating about the cat and the squirrels. Maybe a little brain freeze from the cold. LOL
I've had that bread before! It's so good! Cute picture of the enemies LOL. Glad everything was okay at the cabin. My hubby works for a propane company, & they have to do the same thing.
Thanks so much for visiting. I did get Pioneer Woman's book -- at least the free sample and will most likely get the whole book. I like her blog and thought that would be a fun read. "Rebecca" is a great idea, too. Please come by and visit often.
How funny--the cat AND the squirrels.
Thanks for stopping by--come again soon and join the fun.
Will be back!

Wow that is a lot of squirrels. Glad to hear you didn't have any frozen water lines and everything worked out okay.
After what you experienced before that would have been a scare. I'm glad to hear all is well there. Years ago I went through making that friendship bread and loved it. We do have squirrels here but not many other critters. They are fun to watch. Our neighbors cats do fight with them occasionally but for the most part they stay clear of the cats. I hope your Sunday is a great one!
Thanks for stopping by.
Love the photos of your kitty. And Amish Friendship bread is such a yummy treat~I like it dusted with cinnamon sugar.
