Farewell to Buddy our Gentle Giant

It is with a heavy heart that I write this post. It won't be long as I am not up to writing much but I just wanted you all to know that our dear Buddy passed on today. I don't want to go into a lot of details as it is all too fresh and hurtful to think about. He was in our lives for about 16 years. My hubby bought him for me for Christmas one year and he was a member of our family from day one. He just moved into our hearts and never left. In recent months he has been having problems with colitis which we have been diligently dealing with but nothing helped. The last couple of days he took a turn for the worse and passed on this afternoon. He is buried out back on a knoll, a place that we rode to often. My yard man was so thoughtful and made a beautiful marker to put at the head of the grave. I will post a picture soon. I am comforted in the fact that he had a wonderful, happy, pampered life here on the farm with us but I will miss him terribly.

Oh I am so sorry for your loss! It tears a piece of your heart out when you lose a pet. He was a handsome boy, I'm sure he was as happy to have "owned" you. At least you can still visit him, that will be comforting when the hurt lessens. Big warm far away hug!!

I'm so sorry. I can only imagine what it would feel like if Blue passed on. And of course he will, but I don't want to think about it. Maybe I'll go first.

God bless and comfort you.

I stopped over here from Pony Girl's site, for my first visit. And I am just so sad and sorry for your terrible loss. :(

What a handsome gorgeous horse and what a long time you've spoiled him and loved him. He was very blessed to spend the rest of his days with you.

So sorry and hugs, too.

Oh...no. I'm so sorry and have tears in my eyes.
You know, just from reading your blog, I was so fond of your dear Buddy. Animals certainly can make their way into our hearts, can't they?
You are so right to try and think about the fact that he had so many sweet years there living with your family. He was loved and well cared for, and Buddy was blessed.

Oh my goodness! So very sorry for your loss of you "Buddy" I know I have grown attached to him via your blog. What a sweet man he was. Thank you for sharing him with us and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers during this time. Big ((HUGS)). What a great place to bury him, where you can visit him regularly. And what a nice gesture for the yard man to make a marker. They are so much a part of our families.

The tears are flowing as I write this.....I know how you feel. The pain is so bad in the beginning, but it will lessen. God will see you through it. I had to take one of my cats out on a rainy night one time to the Emergency Vet Clinic and have her put to sleep, and then I had to bring her back home! I even carried her to work the next morning! I didn't know what to do....I was divorced, living in an apartment, and finally my ex came by my workplace at 7pm and took her and buried her for me at my daughter's. I had that dead little cat with me for 17 hours!

And now I have 8 little chests on my mantle of other cats I have lost. And I have 4 buried at my daughter's before I knew they cremated animals. We are facing euthansia here now with both of my son's cats. You love them like your children.

Buddy was just that...your buddy! He was a wonderful boy, and you will miss him, I know. You gave him the best life he could have ever had. He knows he was loved, too.

My son is facing the biggest decision of his life right now, too. Punky was his first pet of his very OWN. He said his cats are like his children since he isn't married and doesn't have any real children. It's just something we have to face with pet ownership. As I have always said, I gave them a better life than what they would have had, and then I turn them over to God. Buddy is in heaven, and he is well now and not suffering. My heart is heavy for you. The knoll sounds like such a beautiful final resting place for him.

I will pray that God lightens your pain.....I want you to know that I am thinking of you!!!
