553 posts, who would have guessed?

Who Put Me on These Things
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
I just happened to see that this will be my 553 post! Who would have thought that over the last few years I would have come up with enough foolishness to fill the pages?  I wish there was some way to put it all on a CD to save it all for future reference.  I used to print off each one but that went by the way side long ago.
It’s bright and sunny here in the north east after having some of the worst weather that we have had in a long time.  Everyone is finally all dug out and power has been restored to those that were unfortunate enough to have lost it.  We were happy not to have lost ours but we do have a big generator that clicks on within a few seconds when needed.
Mimi took Miss T and Cousin K skiing this week.  They had a blast in all the new snow. Thank goodness for helmets though as each of them took at least one good tumble!  We have a small mountain about twenty minutes from here that is just right for an afternoon of skiing for young ones.  The trails are not to awfully challenging and they have installed a chair lift instead of just the T-bar that they had when Son was out there skiing. I gave my skis away a few years ago, I’m just not as brave as I used to be………….
I’m sure a lot of you have heard about the chairlift accident here at Sugarloaf in Carrabassett Valley.  The lift was old and was on the list for replacement but they still had it running in very heavy winds which was a big mistake.  They had it shut down for a while but then started it up again.  Thankfully no one was critically hurt but several, including kids had to be taken to the hospital.  I’m sure the two feet of fresh snow to fall in helped a lot!!!!!  I have always been a little afraid of that happening, no, not always, when I was young I didn’t think a thing of it! ha!

I looked out the window one morning and saw this beautiful sunrise.  Glad I had my camera ready as it didn’t last long.

I guess it’s time to bring in this chair that we keep on the little deck off our bedroom.  Don’t think anyone will be setting out there at night for a while. (It is now in the basement)

I counted 42 turkeys out back this morning when I went out to feed them.  Yikes! I think the flock is growing every day! I think the word is out ‘Come to Weezies diner, the food isn’t that great but the price is right!’

I think what has happened is that two flocks have merged.  I enjoy watching the dynamics of the flocks and after a couple days of stand off they are together.  There was a lot of posturing with feathers all fluffed out and lots of squawking but all is quiet now except for the cute little clucks and peeps that the hens make.
Never know what you are going to find on your bed when you make it up: Noodles loves snuggling under something.

Mary at Mary’s Writing Nook had a book swap before Christmas and I was so fortunate to have gotten Barbara H. from Tennessee as my partner.  She sent me the loveliest books that I have just devoured!  This one is by Melody Carlson and has three of her books in this one edition.  They are heartwarming and such good reading, I will dig it out each Christmas season to read again.
book swap 002
This one is fabulous, it is The 12 Days of Christmas Cookbook and I do love me a good cookbook!  It has great recipes and tips on having a wonderful less stressful holiday season.  I have already bookmarked numerous recipes to try! Yum!
book swap 003
This next one is a devotional by Nancy Guthrie.  Each and every one of us should use this for the month of December, it really keeps one in the right spirit of the holiday.  It is jam packed  with daily devotions from the Bible for each day of the month, words to the wonderful old Christmas carols, a place to write in comments and notes that you want to remember,  great for family devotions or by yourself, you will be blessed to read this book!  I will be ordering this book for numerous people before next December!
book swap 004
Last but not least was this lovely pen and pad with a cardinal and Luke 2:14 written on it,  ‘Peace on earth, good will to all.’ What a thoughtful gift to tuck in with the books!  Thank you Barbara soooooooooo much!!!

We are headed down to the lake this afternoon to check on things and enjoy the sunshine.
We’re back and it was delightful down there.   The sun was streaming in the front sliding glass doors once we opened the blinds. The lake was open except right here on the narrows where we are located but it certainly wasn’t thick enough ice to walk on.  Ice fishing starts tomorrow but it will be a while until people can put their ice shacks out.

Guess that’s it for today.  I hope you all are enjoying this New Years Day.  We aren’t much to celebrate and were asleep by 9:45 last night. I guess that means we are old duffers but oh well…….. :o)

"Here's to the bright New Year, and a fond farewell to the old; here's to the things that are yet to come, and to the memories that we hold."

Happy New Year my dear friend:-) I haven't visited anyone in so long, I can see that it will take me a month to get caught up! lol I have read your posts I missed and I loved seeing all the pictures from your Christmas. The grands sure look like they had a fun time opening their gifts:-) Love the idea of baskets instead of stockings, you should have seen me trying to get everything in the stockings! lol

I love cooking for Christmas as well, so much tradition and memories go into it. You mentioned you use potatoe bread for your stuffing...is this a special bread you make yourself?

I can't believe all the snow you have over there. We've had one snowfall so far and now it's almost all melted away. It's been raining the last two days!! Yesterday it went up to almost 50F and today it's 45F...strange!!!

I hadn't heard about the chairlift accident, my goodness, that was a tragedy waiting to happen for sure!!! Thank God no one was seriously hurt. It's no wonder I don't like heights! lol

I haven't started putting away my Christmas decorations or the tree yet. Usually I do that on New Year's Day but I'm so stuffed up with a head cold, I just don't have the energy. Christmas will have to last a little longer this year:-)

I'm so looking forward to another wonderful year of friendship with you. Love you to bits. xoxoxoxo

Happy New Year, dear friend. May your year be filled with many blessings.

Your exchange gifts are just wonderful. I know that you will be enjoying each and every one of them.

I can't believe how deep your snow is! That must have been quite the storm and I am glad that you kept your power throughout. The sunrise pictures look so pretty with such gorgeous colors.

That is a lot of turkeys!!! They will certainly eat you out of house and home. They will soon be writing your blog for you as theytake over your place.

Our day will be quiet too. We made it until 10:15 last night - a late one for us. We are forecast for a new storm to move in later today which will last through Wednesday.

I can't believe it is January already...OR in just a month!!! Yeah.

Have a wonderful year ahead. xox

Thanks for sharing your books. I'm going to take note of them for gifts myself.
Glad the new year has started out on a positive note for you. The turkeys are great. I have a bunch of cracked corn and duck food from last spring. Hopefully the mallards will return this year.
Why aren't my Christmas decorations putting themselves away? Lazy elves.

Oh my, that is a lot of posts. I try to keep mine as well but that file is getting pretty darn big. LOL I printed somer pertinent ones out when I was working on the lawsuit and boy do those take up space.

I did hear about the lift accident. I'm afraid I've always looked at those lifts as a little bit much for me. I like to be much closer to the ground........as in right underneath my little, whoops big, tootsies. LOL Glad that no one was seriously hurt but still scared the pants off many I'll bet.

The lake looks so different all iced over. I've never been anywhere cold enough for ice fishing. It would be odd to see little shacks speckled across a lake.

The books looked very interesting. I am very bad about cookbooks. I have so so many of them. I could probably start a cookbook store. I love the old ones and especially those little freebees that were given out as handouts before I was born. There are some amazing recipes in some of those. The funniest part of it would be, I RARELY cook anymore. LOL I am an odd duck!

Hope you have a very Happy New Year, my friend!

I hope everyone enjoyed their Christmas.

Hi, I'm back again. I don't kniow what has gotten into me, but I've been a real slug about blogging.

Wow, such beautiful photos...I especially love that first sunrise picture! You are so blessed to live where you do...
I either didn't realize or had forgotten that your mom also has macular degeneration- this is exactly what my mom was diagnosed with last year. It's been so sad to see such a quick decline in her sight since only 18 months ago she was devouring books...But though she sometimes is sad or frustrated, she is managing quite well.
Anyway, so good to get your reply on my post...I hope to post again before the week's out- but we will see since this is our first week back to school (and I homeschool!) Seems it's a bit more challenging now that my oldest is in 6th grade!
Blessings,
~Tammy

Happy New Year! I hope you post pictures of the ice shacks when they are out. I have seen them in movies, but never seen a picture of one in real life. That picture of noodles is adorable! Our Sampson likes to snuggle up under a blanket as well! I hope you have a bless year!

The sunshine is so wonderful when we haven't seen it in awhile. We've a break in the weather here too. No new snow but very cold even with sunshine. Happy New Year to you too!

I'm glad the books arrived safely and that you liked them! I received yours as well, thanks so much! I had not heard of that author or book an I'm looking forward to reading it.

I'm glad we don't have that much snow!

Wow, so many turkeys. Does look like they've found a good thing!

That is a gorgeous sunset.

Happy New Year MM!! (I know.. days late and dollahs short as usual..lol)

Santa brought a new computer monitor, and guess what---- that sunset was BREATHTAKING on my end. I can only imagine how spectacular it was in real life!!

Noodles is so adorable hiding under the blanket... lol! Makes me kinda happy though that DAT has not learned tricks like that. She'd rip us limb from limb! (Not really but I bet she would get a kick out of seeing how loud she could make us scream. Rotten DAT!)

2011 is progressing as quickly as 2010 did on our end. Hard to believe really... *sigh* Next thing we know, it'll be December again.

Stay warm!! Enjoy the sunrises and sunsets, and all your critter crew!

xoxo

It sure is beautiful with all that snow....but it makes me cold looking at it!

Happy New Year! Hope it's a great year for us all.

I like your attitude when having to deal with lots of snow, lost power, issues with your animals, etc. You seem to do what you have to do without a lot of fuss, and move on.

Yes, I did see the ski lift accident on the news several times. It didn't help in my thoughts about a skiing trip. I've never skied.

Enjoyed your pictures as always.

Congratulations on #553! I have some catching up to do.

Best wishes for a peaceful and fulfilling new year.

I just finished my 578th post, but I've been blogging longer than you - so I haven't written as many per year as you have.

What a bunch of snow! Has it melted yet? I heard more stuff was coming your way, but don't know if it's that far north.

I love the pix of the deck at the cabin - the same tree I photographed, with a few leaves still there. Made me homesick!

That's a powerful lot of turkeys!
