Friday Happenings

You'll have to excuse me for constantly writing about my grandchildren but this blog is meant to be an online journal that I put away for future reference for them. We like being hands on grandparents and hope that they will continue to enjoy being with us like they do now. They delight in running upstairs and jumping on our king size bed when they first get here. Amazing how you let your grands do things that you wouldn't your kids. Mellowing out maybe???

I went to T's Field Day on Friday. What a blast watching all the Kindergartners running, jumping, throwing and kicking the ball. Every recess should be like that so that they get the wonderful exercise that they need after sitting at their desks all day. Too much time is spent in front of a computer or tv these days. I hope parents turn off the computers and tv for the summer so the kids will play outside. We used to play hide and seek by the hour and Red Rover or kick the can. Many an evening was spent on the front lawn playing these games and then we would be all tuckered out and ready for bed!

It threatened rain all day but held off long enough for the Field Day and today for all the classes to go to the park and play on the playground equipment. Monday is their last day of school FINALLY! With all the snow days to make up they had to go way over the normal time to get done.

I was on my way to an appointment the other day and it hit me when I saw this that I really live in REDNECK country! I was not impressed, not that I have anything against hunting if you're going to eat the meat but come on, this is rather tacky!!! Don't you all agree?????? Please tell me you do! I think the man in the truck was wondering why I was taking pictures through my windshield of his vehicle so he turned down the first side street that we came to. I wasn't taking the pictures as I was driving, it was at the stop light, just in case you were wondering! heehee!

The farrier came yesterday and did all the ponies feet and gave Buddy a good looking over. He can't see any reason why he fell a couple weeks ago and thinks he looks great for his age. I guess I am going to take the attitude that it was just one of those crazy things and ride him. Of course I'll wear my helmet, knee pads, shoulder pads, wrist wraps, jumping vest and anything else I can think of in case I take another digger!!

I had my interview with the director of the Humane Society and one of the board members yesterday. They took me to lunch at Olive Garden and I had yummy lasagna. They filled me in on what my responsibilities would be and what the procedures are for different things that they have to do. They wanted to know how I felt about them having to occasionally put an animal down, what the procedure for that is, that it is always a hard decision to make but is done with the utmost care and respect. When the staff knows that this is going to happen they all come in one by one and say goodbye and this practically brought tears to my eyes. I know that this has to happen if an animal is dangerous or too sickly to save.

They took me to the facility and I saw all the animals. It was sad to see the ones that have been there a long time and have yet to be adopted. I have a feeling our animal population will grow around the 'ole farm! It's a very nice facility but still has things that need replacing or upgraded and money needs to be raised for that. I was impressed at the cleanliness of everything and how healthy all the animals looked. Well, except the ones that had just been rescued a couple days before out of a horrendous situation. They were quarantined of course and everything is being done to get them back on their feet again.

I think this is going to work for me. I had some doubts going in but if I can help to make a difference I will be thrilled. One thing I can start doing right now is using up the fleece that I have in my sewing room making little blankets for the kittens to sleep on. I'm sure you all have seen the throws made out of this with the edges tied together to make them double. Small ones will work up in no time.

My dear blogging buddy Susie over at Susie's Space has had an unexpected incident happen that will keep her in a bright pink cast for the next few months. If you get a chance hop over and give her some nice Get Well Soon wishes! She is one of the nicest ladies here in Bloggityville and I know would appreciate your thoughts and prayers!

Don't ever apologize for talking about your grandkids...if we didn't enjoy reading about them, we wouldn't keep coming back!! hehe I think they're just adorable anyway:-)

Sounds like a lot of fun was had on Field Day. Like you, I also think kids spend way too much time in front of the tv or computer...well I do too, but that's another story! lol

Now about that hitch...now I've seen everything!! Sheesh! Yup, I think it's a little on the tacky side too.

Great to hear that the farrier couldn't find anything wrong with Buddy. Just make sure you're well padded next time you ride him. lol

I think you will do great at helping out at the Humane Society. Your love of animals is so obvious and I know you'll do everything to make sure that they get the care they need.

Isn't it a shame that Susie will have to spend the summer wearing a cast...such a pretty pink one though! hehe I'm saying extra prayers for her that she heals quickly!! As for the link, I checked out the properties and you have it as:

You need to replace it with this:

Hope that works! Love you! xoxoxo

That kindergarten field day looks like such fun. I agree that the kids need to be outdoors having fun at this time of year..
So glad Buddy got a good report and to hear you'll be taking every precaution when riding.
I know your tender heart will add a wonderful dimension to the Humane Society. Look at your already thinking of blankies for the kitties!!
Thanks so much for the linky love.
(don't worry about it not working, just the fact that you cared enough to mention is so touching to me!)
love you!!

Your grandchildren's pictures were great, but I agree the dear thing on the truck hitch IS tacky. No doubt about it. When I see things like this I always turn to my husband and say, "thanks for not doing that dear."

How sweet are those pics of "T"! I love the kids events. Taylor plays Soccer, Ashley sings.......

The trailer hitch was just too funny for words. We had a huge old bronco that we just sold, Allen insisted on putting (male genitalia) a thing on it that has since been OUTLAWED BY THE STATE! It is a $60.00 fine! It truly wasn't horrible, but it sure wasn't appropriate either (he has DAUGHTERS, for crimineys sake)

As to the "redneck" thing, Honey I live on the "redneck Riviera"!....I still say things like, "Well bless her heart"!

Most people envy (a sentiment that is so overrated), our beaches.....I envy you those horses. They are so beautiful!

Nice to see you on my blog, and just FYI, Allen is doing great. He has a microscopic scar on his retina, and we will be looking at Lasik sometime in the very near future, but his vision will be fine, so we are ok with that. Thank you for caring and praying.

I'll be back to check on you!

You know I just hate it when people talk about their grandkids all the time - hahaha!!

I got to go to Care Bear's kindergarten field day. too. It was really fun watch her running like the breeze around the little track they'd set up. She's extremely athletic. It'll be fun to see what they do with their lives, won't it??

You are brave to want to work at an animal shelter - I truly admire you.

Every time I visit, I want to take every one home with me. It's heartbreaking to think that more than 1/2 of them (90% of cats at the shelter I live near) won't make it out of there alive.

Great pics as always! You all are great grandparents, so involved! Very cool!

First of all, we all love reading and seeing your grands on your blog! If I had some, I would be writing about them, too! They are cute as buttons, and I thank you for sharing them with us!

Yes, the deer on the hitch is verrrry tacky! It takes all kinds! Now you know how much I love cats. Well, I was furious when I saw a bumper sticker on a Jeep one time that said "The only good cat is a flat cat!" I could've slugged that driver, had the light not turned green!

I know you will be a wonderful addition to your Humane Society there. Lucky are the little animals there who will have little blankets to sleep on, thanks to you! I love visiting our shelter here, but I had to stop going! I have enough pets now as it is! LOL
I feel they favor dogs more than cats here, though...guess that's why I have taken in so many feral cats...they don't have a chance once they are taken to the shelter as they are immediately put down the same day! Last I heard, approximately 13,000 animals are put down in our shelter annually here! Wish I could save them all!

I am trying to pass that award on to all the readers of my blog, but so far, no one has put it on their blog. I am allowed to pass it on, aren't I??? I put it on Lyle's myself. (I started him with his blog when they were here and continue to help him with it a little.) Oh, they are back home in AZ now, and he said once he gets caught up at home, he'll get back to working on his blog. They are really such a great couple!!! I just wish they lived closer!

Oh, I know about the shelter....it just kills me to go there! I want them ALL!!! Wish I lived out in the country where I could take them ALL!!! It is just so sad that they will do everything to save a dog, from leg amputations, extreme surgeries, etc., but when it comes to a cat, nothing doing, just put it down!!! They aren't even given the chance to get well! Guess that's why I prefer cats over dogs. I was raised with a boxer and a chow, plus we had cats, pigs, chickens, rabbits, ducks, geese, and even a pony! But cats are my true love. They are so innocent. Everyone seems to favor dogs, so I always root for the underdog...or undercat, as it should be in this case.

So many people in the South here where I live hate cats. My neighbors have reported me to Animal Control twice! The last time I let them in to see my cats and their living areas, and the woman officer saw how clean I was with them and said I had nothing to worry about. (I only had 20 at that time.) She said the neighbors said I was letting my cats roam the street! I told her oh, no, not when I've paid thousands of dollars to get them all cleaned up and tested for diseases, spayed or neutered, de-flead, de-wormed, de-ear mited, and their shots, was I going to let them outside again!!! The ones roaming the street weren't mine.....yet! But they are now!!! I told her they were just a bunch of old people here who don't like cats, period! It's okay if they walk their dogs and let them drop their dirties in other people's lawns, though! I even went to the HOA meeting and got up and said if they had anything to say about me to say it to my face, not behind my back! I speak right up when they bring up the subject of feral cats! I have trapped all there is out there, except one, and I had her spayed 7 years ago and released her, and now she won't enter the trap again, or I would have her inside, too! I released alot of them back then and have re-trapped them or grabbed them by the scruff to get them! Had to have them retested for everything all over again, too, before I would even bring them into my home. I am so clean and fussy! I even have white carpeting! No shoes allowed past my front porch, period!!! LOL

People keep telling me I need to get rid of some of mine! Take them to the shelter? NO WAY! They would be terrified!!! I would never do that to them! I just pray that I live long enough to see them through to the end. I am 63, and have had a heart attack and other problems, so I do worry about me going before them, and then WHAT happens to them??!!! It's always a worry on my mind. They all love me, I know that, even the ferals. But the ferals are scared to death of anyone else. Just pitiful! I am so glad to know you are an animal lover, too!!! There needs to be more like us in this world of ours! People are just ignorant about their pets. There's a beautiful cat on the lower end of my street that is someone's outside cat, (she has 2 dogs inside, though!!), and I may just steal the poor thing! Makes me mad to see it out in this horrible heat here!

Thanks for allowing me to vent off some steam! LOL

I have been enjoying reading your blog. Your grandkids are adorable, and that's your grandma's privilidege, to show pictures and tell us all about them. Grandchildren are our most precious treasures!

Your horses are beautiful.

As an animal lover, I thank you for caring so much!

At this point, I have 5 cats and 2 dogs, all rescues. Two of my beloved dogs went to doggie heaven recently. All my animals were rescues. Or drop offs. Way too many animals are dropped off in the country, to fend for themselves. Many of them find their way to my house!

I also love wild animals!

Thanks so much for visiting my blog, and your kind comment. Hope you visit again. I will be back here, you can be sure of that.

Take care and God bless!

Renie

I can't believe the kids are just getting out of school. The schools in our area have been out for over a month! Good luck with your work at the Humane Society. I know it will be hard, but you have a heart for it.

You already know I am a firm believer in the power of prayer and I am never shy in asking for it. Yours and our friends and family's prayers made Allen be ok.

Our families prayers will be with yours as long as you need them.

As to the grandkids....no worries. If we didn't love reading about other kids (and grandkids) where would us mommy bloggers find friends?

that hitch is CRAZY!!! Can't say I have seen one like that before! pretty funny;)

I think it is so fabulous how involved you are in your grandkids lives! These are cherished memories for many yrs to come! They are so lucky to have you! What a wonderful Grandma!I always hoped my parents would be more this way, I guess that is why I am so Blessed to have Teri!!!

I think the animal shelter would be great for you, Though in many ways could be quite hard too! I hope it works out and makes you feel fulfilled helping out, you are so wonderful to do this!

Always enjoy your fun photos!

Keep the blogs of grandkids coming.
It is funny how the grandkids do get away with things that your kids didn't. My sons are always telling me that. Wish that mine were closer.
With all of the bad storms we have been having, that has made us really busy here in the office.
I remember playing those games when we were kids. If you tell a kid now to go play them they just look at you like you've lost it.It is to bad what this new generation is missing.

I "found" you on bj's site. What a beautiful blog you have here! I enjoyed the visit and welcome you to drop in anytime.

Especially enjoyed reading this post about your potential plans to help out at the shelter. My sweet 12-year old daughter sometimes says she wants to be a missionary; other times, she says she wants to run a horse rescue farm.

I think she could do both, don't you?

Of course our blogs are filled with things about our grandchildren and that's the way it should be. As you know, my grandsons' names come up often in my blog. They are a big part of our lives. Please don't apologize. I love hearing how grandparents and grandkids interact and often get ideas on things to do with my boys.

I was brought up in a hunting family. Our table was often graced with meat that Dad had brought down when hunting. However, I think the deer hitch is taking it a little far.

I'm glad to hear that Buddy just took a spill and that he had no medical condition that caused it.

You will enjoy working at the Animal Shelter. There are so many beautiful animals there and many of them come from abusive situations. I'm sure some will end up on your farm. ;-)

Have a great week and thanks so much for your prayers for my aunt.

Blessings,
Mary

Talk about grandkids????? Whoever does a thing like that?????

Sounds like you have been keeping yourself busy with the Humane Society. I know that that extra fleece will be used up in no time at all. I just hate going to visit as I want to bring everything home with me.

Our trip has been wonderful. We are homebound now and will get back over the weekend. It has been fabulous and such fun to get back to visit all of the relatives. I miss all of the little ones, however, and can't wait to get home and see them again.

I LOVE grand kid posts!!! Who was it that said the only logical reason to have kids is so you can enjoy grandkids?? Sooo cute!! Ours all live a distance away, but the neighbor kids spend so much time with us they're honorary grand kids.

I'm so glad you're going to do the Humane Society thing. Sounds like a good fit for all concerned. I worked for five years at a humane society in my previous life. It's challenging work, but so rewarding. Good for you!

And yes - that hitch was horrible. :-(

Your opening paragraph made me think of that expression: Grandchildren are your reward for not killing your teenagers! Thanks for sharing them with us.

Love the field day photos! :)
I enjoy reading about all the kids in my blogging friends lives!

I think moms and grandmas should blog all they want about their special kids and grandkids...because like you, not only do we love them, but I think many of us want to preserve so many stages and milestones through recording them on our blogs.

You're right about Susie...she's such a sweet friend and she's taking this "pink surprise" with such grace, don't you think?

Have a great rest of the week!

Yupe, that looks like redneck country to me. I wouldn't like that hitch cover much either. lol

I'd have a hard time working at the humane society or at a horse rescue. I'd want to bring every last one of them home too. I hope it works out and you can make the difference you hope for.
