Home, home on the range...........

I just came in from the sun room. We don't have a television out there, don't need one, there is always so much going on to watch without one. I was trying to get some shots of two new birds, a goldfinch and a purple finch that were sitting on a branch together but by the time I got my camera on the tripod of course they had flown the coop...so to speak. I was focusing in on a chickadee when a chicken hawk swooped down out of nowhere looking for his supper! Yikes! He was moving fast but I let out a yell and scared him off and everyone was safe, for the time being.

There was a mom raccoon daintily picking up bird seed for her supper and a piece of Ken*tucky chicken that I threw out to her, she took off when I yelled but will be back later after dark. Noodles has been sitting out there watching her all afternoon. Munchie was stalking a tom turkey and his lady friend hen. They were picking away at the deer grain that I put out each night. They weren't very afraid of her and once in a while would let out a loud gobble.

Two mourning doves were sitting on a branch together coo-cooing. I think they are a couple, they looked like they are in love. I can tell those things you know. I think she is playing hard to get, see how far they are sitting away from each other. Haven't seen the mallard couple in a few days, George and Barbara. They must be nesting down by the stream. The squirrels are happy, I have been throwing their seeds up on the playhouse roof to keep them out of harms way i.e. Munchie and Noodles. Today there were two different kinds of squirrels and two species of birds all up there together.

Now throw the boys in the mix and we really will have antics to watch. They will be home soon and Nick automatically goes into Turkey Patrol Mode. He does not like the turkeys to be in the pasture and chases them with his ears pinned back every chance he gets. They like to roost on the fence and even that annoys him, he's rather o.c.d. (wonder where he gets that?)

Always chores to be done around the barn and Hubby likes playing on his tractor. It's good for him as it's so different then sitting behind a desk like he does all day. His knee is really doing well and it looks like surgery is out for now! We're putting up some new fencing that is almost done.

I was tagged by my blogging buddy Tina over at Palm Tree Fanatic to do this meme. I have to write 5 things about myself. Hummmmm..... I think I have pretty much put it all out there over the last 275 posts so I'll have to give it some thought.......let's see what don't you already know....

1. I have a brain tumor. It's a benign tumor that they discovered when I fell off my horse last September and I have had numerous tests on it and it seems to be fine. It wigs we out a little if I think about it too long so I don't very often.

2. I have three sisters and one brother. I am the middle child, can't you tell??? My brother is the youngest, the baby of the family. We never let him forget it. We tease him that he is the favorite, of course we all know that I am. Just kidding. :o)

3. I went to boarding school for my high school years on the coast of Maine. It was a gorgeous setting right on the water and I wish I had taken pictures of the rocks and water while there but I was too busy thinking about boys. You thought I was going to say my studies didn't you?! I liked it there but didn't like being three hours away from home. Did get home a lot of the weekends though on the Greyhound bus or my parents would make the drive to pick us up. There were several kids from my hometown there and we'd carpool.

Guess that's it. Not too terribly exciting. Now let's see who can I tag????? Guess I'll leave it up to you. If you like doing meme's consider yourself tagged! Someone else tagged me for something and I'm trying to think who it was. Guess I'll have to check back and see if I can find it. Why don't I keep a pad of paper beside my computer to write these things down on?

We had a lovely Mother's Day. After church we went to my sister's home for lunch and some fun outside. T and D love to go there and play on the trampoline. Cousin A and DIL got into the game too. It was a beautiful day, just right to be outside playing.

I hope you all had a wonderful Mother's Day!! :o

Sounds like a really nice day. Can't get over the raccoon and her piece of fried chicken! Raccoon mamas deserve Mother's day treats too, right?

I've never raised a raccoon but it can't be all that different from raising rugrats... :)

The sunroom souds like an awesome place to just view the wildlife. Perhaps it should be called the "wildroom" instead.

I think she-dove is playing hard to get too. Look at her body language.

So glad to hear R's knee is so much better. No surgery is such a relief fo everyone.

Looks like you guys had a great mother's day. The kids certainly enjoy the trampoline, don't they? We should be so energetic!!!!

It does sound like a nice day. Love sitting on our deck and watching the wildlife too. Interesting facts about yourself there. Brain tumor, must be scary to get that news. I have MS, ie: holey brain.

You do live in such a lovely spot! Hey, I thought you were gonna tell us 5 more things but we only got 3. Hmmm. I always wonder - why you went to boarding school. Fill us in sometime, if you wish. If not, forget I asked!

We have mourning doves and the sound always takes me back to my grandma's house in Minnesota. But I never see them.

That raccoon would love it at our pond. I suspect one of his relatives lives near us and has passed the word that the fish are mighty good eating!
When I read about your brain tumor, I felt a little shiver of fear. (because of my Mom) glad to hear yours is benign! Hers wasn't sad to say..
Loved seeing all your pictures. We are roasting here today!!

I'd wig out at the thought of having a brain tumor too, even a benign one.

I'm working on finding the best possible spot for my wall hanging, now that the mobile home is here.

Wow! What a great post! Lov the birds! I found it all interesting. When you mentioned your brain tumor, it hit home with me. My daughter, Brenda has a benign brain tumor also. She has chosen to live with it rather than the alternative of removing it. I always enjoy my visits to your blog, and as always, thank you for your kind comments on mine.

The raccoon is a hoot. They can be monsters to raise. They can get into so much, even the fridge, and help themselves to whatever they want and of course, they make huge messes in the process.

I feel for the poor hawk. It has to eat to, but then I'd really rather not see it up close. Don't mind watching them grab rodents out of our field but a branch outside my window might be a bit much.

I went to boarding school as well. Also know Mr Greyhound Bus more inimately than I would wish on my worst enemy.
