Happy Mother's Day

It's a beautiful day here in the pine tree state. We had rain yesterday but today is sunny, warm with a gorgeous blue sky. I went to the stable this morning and groomed all the guys and the hair was just flying out of them. You lucky folks in the warmer parts of the country have no idea the heavy coats our horses get here and how long it takes to get them shed out. I brought some hair home yesterday to spread around for the birds to make their nests with. The woodpecker is still tapping away on our gutter. Someone told me that's how they try to attract a mate. I hope he finds a nice lady friend soon!

We had a great time going to FIL's award dinner. We all piled on the bus for the two hour ride to Portland. Saw a moose on the way but the bus driver wouldn't stop for me to get out and take some pictures! Doesn't he realize I have a blog to write and need pictures of these exciting things to put in it!!!

We headed out about 3:30 in the afternoon, traffic was light as it usually is on 95 this far north. It got a bit heavier as we got into Portland but as you can see it still wasn't bad.

FIL was being honored by Junior Achievement for his outstanding career in business. There were two other inductees but he was the oldest by far at age 91. He still goes to work every day leaving at 7 in the morning and getting home at 6 at night. We were all very proud of him that night. There were about 300 people in attendance, it was a lovely setting and the food was delicious.

We arrived back at the office about 11:30PM and all headed for home. It was nice not having to drive and our bus driver was very nice.

For Mother's Day we are all going to my sister's home after church for lunch. I thought I'd put a few pictures of my mother in this post in honor of the day. She is quite a character and known for her great sense of humor. I think this picture taken a few years back shows that! heehee!

This next picture was taken in 1928 when my grandmother was cooking at a woods camp and this is my mother and her naughty brother with the calf in front of the barn. Mom was about 4 years old and her older brother maybe six. He was a rascal as you can tell by the look on his face!

This next one is 1945. I love this picture, it was taken out beside my grandparents house.

I think this next one is about the same year with Mom and Dad. Don't you just love the clothes styles?! Hey, Dad had lots of hair back then!

This one was taken in 1951 the year I was born. I'm the one sitting on the car trying to look adorable! My younger sister and brother wouldn't come along for another seven years.

This last one I took when I was down visiting Mom and Dad in Florida in March. They have been married for 64 years.

My mother is amazing as she deals with macular degeneration and has very limited eyesight. She takes care of her home, all the cleaning, laundry etc and still does some cooking. She keeps busy and keeps a positive attitude despite having lots of things that she can't do any more. Dad takes great care of her with dealing with all of her eye drops that have to be put in multiple times per day. They are a team in the greatest sense and I hope they have many more years together!

First I just have to say I am amazed at the lack of traffic on your freeways at that time of day! We'd be parked going nowhere fast if we tried to go into SF in the late afternoon!
Your FIL looks just great and many congrats to him on his wonderful achievement..
Such a touching tribute to your Mom. She looks as though she has a wonderful sense of humor :) I know you know how blessed you are to have her still with you.
Have a wonderful Mother's Day!
love you!

I am also shocked by the light traffic. I don't know if you have ever been to Atlanta or heard about our traffic, but they aren't kidding with they say rush hour is from about 4:30am to 10:30am and 1:30pm to about 9 at night, and it's worse on Fridays! We have an interstate that makes a circle around Atlanta called I-285 and it just sits still most days. That's why I changed jobs back in August...to get away from the area where I had to drive on the interstate!

That was a lovely tribute! My grandmother has macular degeneration and they don't do anything for her for it. They said there was nothing you could do! It kind of makes me want to do research. It is possible that hers was too far gone before they realized she had it.

I can't believe that bus driver! I would have loved to see your moose!

I hope you have a wonderful Mother's Day!

What a lovely tribute to your mom. She has certainly had a tremendous influence on all the lives around her. You are so blessed to be able to celebrate the day with her tomorrow. I was thinking that you might be headed to the coast for a brunch after church. Now I know where you will be.

I love all the old photos of your mom. She and her brother look as though they could get into a lot of trouble together.

A beautiful tribute to both your FIL and your mother.

Your FIL sure has grit. He is from a generation that believed in hard work. Give him my congratulations.

Love the photos of your mother and your family. 65 years is a long time to be together.

Our horses here still have lots of winter hair left. It's been too cold for them to even shed out. I must say I'm really getting sick of it.

I, too, like to leave hair out for the birds. I really love it when we find a nest all lined with our horses hair.
