Give thanks

 Pumpkins

I can’t believe it is Thanksgiving week.  Before we know it Christmas will be right on our door steps.  I love the Thanksgiving holiday.  It is much more low key then Christmas and you really have time to think about all the things you are thankful for.  I have given my list many times over the last four years so won’t bore you with it again, but the list gets longer each year not shorter.  I think as we get a little long in the tooth we realize just how much we do have to be thankful for, not that young folks aren’t but older folks have more history under their belt so’s to speak.
This morning in church we had a special speaker from Kenya that is a pastor, college professor and runs an orphanage the later being his primary endeavor.  They have over 400 youngsters in their orphanage to feed, clothe, love and care for.  Aids has ravaged that country leaving more orphans then can be possibly cared for so they turn into street kids and don’t have a lot to be thankful for this year.  I hope you all will join me, and I know you will, and take a few moments before the Thanksgiving feast that we all will be enjoying and say a prayer for these many youngsters that are living without the simplest of necessities in life.  Thank you!

Give Thanks
I have been trying to finish up some projects in my sewing room.  It seems like I start something, run into a problem, then don’t finish it.  A new day is dawning!  I am going to finish these UFO’s…………hopefully.
I have Miss T’s quilt finished and ready to be sent out to the quilters.  I got the pattern out of a book that my buddy Needled Mom sent me a few months ago.

Here are a few more things I am working on getting finished. These poor pumpkins don’t even have their mouths put on yet.

This one I started last year and ran into a problem and didn’t finish.  One way or another it is going to be finished this year. Even if I have to get creative and finish it other then the way it’s supposed to be as I can’t figure that part out……..

This is another wall hanging that I didn’t finish two years ago.  I worked on that last evening for a few hours and it’s looking better all the time.

Also have a new gadget that I have been playing around with.  I love gadgets, I must confess.  Especially when I can figure out how to use them.  This one is very simple, you just pick out your die and fabric and turn the handle and it comes out the other side all cut out.  Easy peasey!

It also will cut out strips to use in your quilts, different patterns like Drunkard’s Path and many, many more.  There is some waste like there is when you fussy cut something but I think it is worth it to have the things come out so nicely.  I dream of projects that I can do with this thing.  And no, no one is paying me to talk about this, I just like it, but I wish they were!  :o)  It is a Go by Accuquilt.  I will be posting the projects I come up with!

Mr. D spent a couple days with us and he delights in whipping me at air hockey. I told him to put his head down while I took the picture in keeping with the no face rule.  :o(   Don’t you love the mural in the play room?  It was done by a friend of mine and I think it is the cutest thing.

Guess I will get back down in the sewing room and get some work done while the Hubs, Son and Mr. D are at the Patriot’s game in Boston.  I’m going to watch the game from the comfort of my recliner, a cat in my lap and a bowl of pop corn...ahhhhhhhh…….

Beautiful quilts and what a neat machine for cutting out shapes. I bet it saves loads of time. I love quilts but it is not a hobby I've ever pursued. Right now I'm getting rid of rubber stamp supplies as I've never used them as I thought I would. Beading and cross stitch seem to be what I'm best at so will try to stick to them.
I saw your comment on Donna's blog about Vitamin D. My doctor has had me taking D-3 for several years. I can get it at Costco now.
I put up the link for the Western dressage on my blog if you're interested.

You do such a fabulous job on your applique projects!!! I love them. You will really enjoy the GO with all the applique that you do. Do you put the fusible on before you cut them? How big is the snowflake? I was thinking that a mug rug with one on it would be really cute. I did a couple of the rugs on Friday night and really like how they turned out. Check it out as I posted it on the blog.

I LOVE T's quilt!! That fabric line is so awesome and perfect for a girl.

Soooo...did you beat D in the air hockey? That mural is darling in the background.

I think stay home and watching the game sounds better to me too. It is a cool and windy day here after our rains - perfect for a fire and popcorn.

We do have so much to be thankful for this year. Each year there does seem to be more and more. We are so blessed to live where we live in this world. We will continue to remember those who are not so fortunate as we are. Blessings to you and your family. Hugs!

What beautiful projects you have! I love the new gadget for cutting out those beautiful shapes! What fun you will have. I haven't done any applique yet, that would make it easier to have the pieces cut so perfectly!
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays, and yes, I am so thankful for so many blessings!

I don't quilt but I do have a lot of projects going on here too. Today I'm going to finish up painting a slate for DS#3 who is hosting our family Thanksgiving this year. I started it a few years ago, but now it'll make a nice house warming gift for their new home. My main focus is Christmas gifts for them all. I think we number 29 now. That's a lot of painting and knitting for me... That bowl of popcorn sounded good. It's great to relax after a busy day.

That is a nice cutting gadget. Your patterns are so pretty, the colors you pock sure do go together. Miss T's quilt is so pretty. I envy any one that has this kind of talent. Hope you have a nice Thanksgiving and thanks for coming by.

How sad to think about all the youngsters living on the streets without all the simple neccessities or the much needed love & support of a family! It just breaks my heart. Praying with ya! I love all the projects you have going on. Cute picture of Mr. D.

Oh, my how I would love to be able to make quilt tops like that. After Christmas, I am going to make a few, I think, but they will have to be simple. Wish I had taken the time to learn from my mom...too busy at that time (or so I thought)..bwaaaaaaa

That gadget makes me want to make a quilt! :)

Nice that you're enjoying your grandson.

I can see myself in Africa, helping out where there is a need. Maybe after all my kids are in college. God bless those kids.

Okay - I just lost the whole long comment - GRRR!! How did that happen?

I can't believe I've missed this post for 3 days - crazy around here is all I can say.

Love the quilt for Miss T! It is beautiful. You're really getting after it in your sewing room! It makes my eyes and hands hurt to think of it, but I wish I could get inspired to do SOMETHING creative!

I didn't get to see your sewing room while I was touring your house - too bad!

The Kenyan situation is so true and so sad. Kev encountered the street kids in Nairobi - they'll steal your watch or your wallet if you're not very careful. Or they'll ask you for money or your watch to sell and spit on you if you don't give it up. Very sad!

What a beautiful quilt. I wish that I could do that.
That is a neat cutting tool.
I loved the Mural behind your gs.
I like the idea of a good book and popcorn on a chilly day.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
