Paws On Parade 2009

Paws On Parade was held on Saturday and we had a great time! There were big dogs, little dogs, old dogs. young dogs, fat dogs, slim dogs and they all had their own unique personality. The weather forecast was sounding dreadful but we were blessed with nice weather until the last 20 minutes or so when it started to rain. By that time most everything was over anyway so we were very thankful! Last year we had to postpone due to HEAVY rain and wind so this was a delight to actually have it on the right day. :o)

This was my favorite costume, I just thought it was a hoot! This little doggie carried his rider around all day without a complaint!

This is our executive director giving out last minute instructions. The gentleman behind her always wins the prize for the individual raising the most money for the day. He is unable to do the walk any more but participates this way so we felt it proper to give him some personal recognition.

This guy does have an eye in that spot!

The little dog with the cheese head costume won for best costume. His owner is a true sports fan. I think the bigger dog thought that was real cheese by the looks..... The little dog has on sunglasses too.

Our walk was on the water front. This is actually the ending but you all know my tirades about Blogger so I don't think I need to explain.

The leaves are falling quickly because of all the rain we've had in the last few days.

We crossed over a bridge on our walk.

This was in downtown where all the historic buildings are.

Now we are headed down Main St. which is part of the historic district. They have done a really good job making it into a nice place to shop and dine.

This is actually the beginning with our big banner.

What a sweet face!

This dog was HUGE, halfway on the walk I wanted to throw a saddle on him and ride the rest of the way!

The hounds were sniffing everywhere, they were so cute!

Funsize and Hubby helped with Registration.

I love a Newfoundland, just look at that face!

We had flyball demonstrations which were fun to watch. This little rat terrier could really fly!!

Look at the dog on the right, he's just itching to get in there and show them up!

This is my favorite dog of the day!

This lady was not able to do the walk but she sure had fun being a part of all of the excitement.

This was looking down the river, you can see the bridge.

This was a pick pocket dog!

Miss T sold cookies and iced tea.

These little rolly polys would dance for you.

When all was said and done we raised over $30,000. for the Bangor Humane Society! This will help us take in the homeless and find forever homes for them. It also will help pay for spay and neutering, shots and any other physical needs they might have. We are a non profit group. We don't get any state or federal help, it all comes from donations from individuals and corporate sponsors. We didn't bring in as much as we did last year but with the economy the way it is I think we did pretty darned good. After Christmas we will start in on the planning for 2010.
If you want to do an act of kindness stop in to your local humane society and give them a donation. It doesn't have to be big, anything helps. We had one woman come up to us at the end and hand us a $5.00 bill, it all helps. Let's be a voice for those that don't have a voice! :o)

Okay....those costumes were just waaay too cute! I loved the scarecrow one. I was so worried when I saw the weather forecast for Saturday. I am so glad that it turned out well for you in the end. It is such a worthwhile cause and you all did such a great job.

We are off early tomorrow morning so will be out of contact (gulp) for a few weeks. I am sure that I will have withdrawal symptoms.

I'll check in when I get back and answer your e-mail which I haven't had a chance to do yet. Hugs!!!

How I would have loved to have spent a day with all those darling dogs! I would never be able to choose a favourite, they all have their own little characters don't they!! I'm just so glad for you that the rainy weather held off until the end and that you were all able to do the Paws on Parade as scheduled. That's wonderful that you were all able to raise over $30,000...as you say, in these hard economic times, it's a blessing to even get that much raised!! We have Pet Save over here which has a no kill policy and are a non profit group but they're so filled up all the time, they just don't have room for more strays. I've been trying to get the stray kitties I've been feeding in there but they keep saying "no room".

Hope your week is going well, my friend. Love you lots!! xoxoxo

Wow! What a day. You people sure did a great job of raising money. I love the pictures, all of them, but the pickpocket dog is my favorite. How cute.

I am so ready for another dog. I know we aren't going to get one. We just travel too much and I would never want to put my dog in a kennel. So I just drool over other people's dogs.

Have a great week.

I think I have the comment thing fixed. I had to go to customize and change settings there. Here's hoping.

It looks like a wonderful time was had by canines and humans alike. What a great cause. I enjoyed the photos of all the dogs. They bring so much joy into our lives.

It was hilarious watching Dakota with that branch. We just had him out a few minutes ago and he was carrying it around again. A man went by and he actually barked with the branch in his mouth. We laughed so hard my sides hurt. He is a comical one, for sure.

Enjoyed visiting with you.
Blessings,
Mary

That was quite an event! Adorable dogs. The woman in the wheelchair looks just like a woman I saw on The People's Court today who trains dog to work with disabled people.

I am getting excited now - I made our reservations for Kev's harvest banquet - we'll arrive in Portland Thursday, Nov. 5. Hope to figure out a way to see you!

Oops - I mean the 12th - the 5th is when I leave for my college reunion.

Oh, my, what a fun and worthwhile event! Loved seeing all the doggies. They are all adorable in their own way. But I love the Neufie the best! I've always wanted one, but somehow, never did get one, and these days, I am not getting any new animals. Two dogs and 5 cats, and a bunch of deer are enough pets for the time being. LOL.

Dowtown Bangor, Maine looks like a charming town!

Glad you raised such a nice amount. I support the Humane Society of America. We have no shelter here. Too small of a town for one. There is a no kill shelter in Pocahontas, AR, about 30 miles from here, and I donate to them as well. They do rescues, too, and are just a wonderful organization.

What a great post. I enjoyed it. Well, back to cleaning. It's raining out, so I'm trying to catch up with my housework, since I'm stuck in the house. Have a great weekend!

Hugs,
