Snow, Turkeys and Dogs.

It's still snowing here in central Maine. It's so beautiful out there with the large flakes drifting down. The roads were a bit slippery this morning when we went to church but we have 4 wheel drive so didn't have any problem. I have tons and tons of birds out back at the feeders! The storm must have blown them in. Also tons of turkeys have found their way back from the summer months when they moved into the forest where food was abundant. There must be between 30 and 40 this year. It's hard to count them as they keep moving around. When I went out this morning with their grain I called "here chick chick chick" and they gobbled back at me three times! It was a hoot! (No wait a minute, owls hoot so I guess that doesn't apply here....)

Our church service was done backwards this morning. Our pastors son is leaving to go back to Alaska and then on to Afghanistan in a month. He wanted to preach his sermon first so that he could leave to see his son off at the airport. We have so many young men from our church that are in the war. I hate to see them go but know in my heart that God is able to take care of them there just as well as He can here so that is a comfort. I came onto this poem this morning by Gertrude B. McClain and thought it was nice.

Dear Lord, I know this narrow road
Just isn't very wide,
But there is room enough for You,
To walk here by my side.

There may be rocks along the way,
But every step You guide,
I must not get ahead of You,
But stay close to Your side.

The world beyond this narrow road
is pleasing to the sight
And sometimes I may wander off
The way of truth and light.

But then somehow I realize
that I walk there alone,
Without your tender, gentle hand,
I face the dark unknown,

Dear Lord, I need You every day
Upon this path I trod,
For on this road of life I need
The loving hand of God.

So when I feel this narrow road
Just isn't very wide,
I know so well there's room for you
To walk here at my side.

This is Amelia. She is the little girl that I support through Compassion International. Isn't she cute?! She calls me Grandma Louise! I have been supporting her for over a year now and enjoy getting her letters. She is only 6 so has someone do the writing for her so I will be glad when she can write them herself. She lives in a very poor area but goes to school and is learning to write, count, draw and color. She got her rank card and did very well. I look forward to each letter and have fun thinking up things to put into the letters I send her. It has to be something flat like stickers and pages out of coloring books. If anyone has other ideas I would love to hear them.

Just a couple cute pictures to leave you with:

Hope you're all having a great weekend!

Thank you for the pictures of the turkeys. I always enjoy seeing them. They are BIG GUYS!!!!!

Love your poem. It is very fitting to what we are all in need of on a daily basis. I'll add a few extra prayers for your pastor's son. I trust he got off safely.

Amelia is so cute. Flat things???? No hair bands, balloons or things that are sort of flat?

Enjoy that snow. I just got back from the hospital and it is 85* outside. You ask....am I loving this?????? Ahhhhh! It warms my cold bones. I need to get out and prune my roses as I have not had the time yet this year. :(

Stay warm. xoxo

Loved your post today...great joke to begin and that is a lot of turkeys,30 or 40 mouths to feed.I didn't know you could "talk turkey" !!
Wonderful poem for all of us.I'll copy that and put it on my frig.
Amelia is precious and blessed to have you as a sponsor. I will have to think about flat items to include in your letters.
I've missed all of my blogger friends and hope to get back to regular posting.

For most people it "rains cats and dogs"...leave it to you to have "turkeys & birds blow in" lol I know we have wild turkeys over here but don't know that anyone has had them in their backyard. Usually you'll see them in fields. It must be great to be able to watch them feed!

That cartoon about elderly drivers cracked me up and made me think of Ross. God knows that man shouldn't be behind the wheel of a car. I've been a passenger while he's driven and I had to say a few prayers for God to get me home safely! lol I'm hoping his sons will soon decide for him that he can no longer drive before he hurts himself as well as someone else.

That poem is so beautiful and I've printed it out so that I can read it often:-)

Awww that little girl you support is just precious and how wonderful that because of you she's having a chance at an education. The first letter she writes to you herself will make you cry for sure:-)

Lol at those two dog pictures, too funny! Love you lots!! xoxoxox

Oh, how sweet is she!

I think you really have to enjoy snow to live in Maine! We are frozen here with no snow.

The dog with the long legs is a hoot!

Blessings~

Oh, I just love the pictures of the turkeys. We are always so excited when we see wild turkeys along the roadside. (It doesn't take a lot to please us.)

We've had a lot of snow and now they say we're getting more and very cold temps. too. Oh well, it's winter in the northeast, what can we expect, right?

I loved your poem. In every aspect of life, we need to remember how much we need Him.

The turkeys are beautiful. I'm so glad that they come to visit and that you give them some much needed nourishments in the cold winter months.

The poem is lovely. We all need to stay close to God and no matter how narrow the path, there is room for him if we allow him to stay close.

Amelia is a darling and I'm glad that you sponsor her. For 12 years I sponsored a boy named William in Guatemala. When he turned 18, they would no longer allow him to be sponsored and they cut off all communications. It was much like a death in the family. I often think of him and wonder if he ever realized his dream of becoming a doctor.

Take care. I enjoy my visit. Stay safe and warm.

Blessings,
Mary
