Rain, rain, go away!

Fall19

We picked the apples from our two trees on Friday and I made a yummy apple pie.  It was gone by morning so I guess I will make another one today.  We didn’t get many apples but more then usual, the deer didn’t seem to need them this year, usually they strip the trees as they aren’t very tall yet.  Nothing smells any better then an apple pie baking in the oven.  I know the Yankee Candles smell good but there is nothing like the real thing!

We had our Paws On Parade on Saturday morning.  I didn’t even take my camera as it was raining so hard!!!  Despite the rain over 300 people and their dogs showed up!  This is the back of my shirt, it actually says ‘18th’ Annual.

Paws On Parade 2011

You can go to  www.bangordailynews.com and see how hard it was raining and some of the cute dogs.  We raised $55,500.00! YaY!  It was a lot of hard work but well worth the result.  We raised $15,000.00 more then last year and with the economy the way it is I think that is pretty good!  It will sure feed and take care of lots of homeless animals, providing them with vet care and training if they need it.

BANGOR, Maine — The Bangor Waterfront went to the dogs Saturday morning for the Bangor Humane Society’s annual fundraiser.

Tall dogs, short dogs, skinny dogs, wide dogs, fluffy dogs, smooth dogs, rain-coated dogs and naked dogs participated in Paws on Parade. After their jaunt around downtown the dogs all had one thing in common — they were wet. Nearly every tail, however, was wagging.

More than 300 pet owners attended the event, according to Suzan Bell, executive director of the Bangor Humane Society. The event raised $55,500, about $15,000 more than last year, she said.

“This is our biggest year in 18 years despite the rain,” she said.

The money raised is essential, but it is only about 7 percent of the shelter’s $800,000 annual budget, Bell said. Over the past two years, the number of pets at the shelter has increased by 20 percent because of the recession.

“We have more animals in need of extended stays due to veterinary needs or behavioral issues,” she said of the challenges facing the Bangor Humane Society. “ We also have more animals who have had little or no training. We must use resources to train them before they can be adopted.”

In addition to staff from the shelter on Mount Hope Avenue, about 40 volunteers helped set up for the event and register participants.

The highlight of our weekend was the wedding of our nephew Billy and his new wife Kaylin!!!  Once again the rain interfered and the outside wedding was inside but it didn’t for one minute diminish the joy and fun of the event.

I hope to have more pictures coming as my sister is going to send me what she took.  It was a lovely wedding with special touches that made it so personal for Billy and Kaylin.   Billy’s Mom made the cake and it was adorable so I hope my sister got a picture of it and more of the decorating.  Best wishes to the happy couple!

Hey, how about those Patriot’s?!  After last weeks debacle it was good to see Tom Brady back on his game.  My favorite guy Vince Wilfork made another good catch and run.  This guy is 350 lbs. but still can pick ‘em up and put ‘em down!  :o)  It was nice to have the big new sunroom to watch the game in with friends. There was plenty of room for everyone, including the cats!

The boys are going back to the stable on Wednesday.  Waaaaaaaaaaaaaa!  It’s a little earlier then usual as we are going to Florida for a family vacation on Friday.  I HATE it when they go back and miss them terribly.  It’s only 5 or 6 minutes to the stable but it’s not like just looking out in my backyard and seeing them and walking out to the fence with apples and carrots for them any time I want.  Needless to say they will be extra spoiled this week!

You could send some of that rain to TX. I am sure they would appreciate it.

Wow! You guys did another awesome job on you POP event. It seems like you worry about the rain each year. I'm glad that everyone still participates for such a great cause.

They say that it is good luck if it rains on your wedding day. I enjoyed the wedding photos. What fun!

Time for the boys to return already? Where did the summer go? I am sure they will be getting loads of extra attention these last few days. I wonder if they sense the upcoming change.

We are enjoying our British company and making fun memories. I need to get my place decorated for the fall and have not had a chance yet. Soon!!!

Stay dry! xox

How wonderful that you raised that much money to help our fur friends.
Things here have been a little dry but I think that the farmers like it since harvest is in full swing.
Have fun in FL.

A family vacation in Florida right now sounds wonderful. The weather man said we have had 50 inches over our normal rainfall so far this year. Rain rain go away...Enjoy that sunshine!

Rain or not, your Paws on Parade certainly did extremely well and as you say, to raise $15,000 more than last year in this economy is fabulous! Well done:-) We had one rainy day last week but it's been sunny and mild otherwise. We're really getting spoiled because usually we get lots of rain during September and October. This week it's supposed to go up in the high 60's and low 70's with sunshine. Perfect weather to put away all of my patio furniture and garden ornaments.

Such a beautiful bride and handsome groom! I just love the Autumn decor at the head table. It's a shame their outside wedding ended up inside but no doubt everyone made the best of it and had a wonderful time anyway. Corey and Kristen have set their wedding date for Sept. 15, 2012 and it's supposed to be an outside wedding:-) Let's hope Mother Nature cooperates that day!

Awwww, I know how much you miss your boys when you have to send them to their winter home and I have no doubt they miss you too! Thank goodness they're not too far away though:-)

Love you to bits, thank you for always being here for me. xoxo

Good of you to blog about Paws on Parade. Such a cause needs to be kept in the forefront. It makes me want to participate in a doggy parade in my area. :)

Going to Florida - nice! Our weather in Virginia is cool and damp; the high around 55 today. We're sure to get 80 degree weather again though before winter. Still, I'd go to Florida if I could.

Congratulations to Kaylin and Billy. May they be blessed with a long a peaceful life together.

EnJoy your trip!

Wishin' it'd rain HERE. We'll gladly take some soggy wetness. Just to fill up the drought 'cracked ground' 'round here!!

What an incredible event. And to have so many show up in such nasty weather just goes to show that you're doing a great job. High 5.

Enjoy your time in Florida...oh, and the ants you're speaking of on my comments this morning....ya, I read something about them on Yahoo's news the other day...they're called "Hairy Ants" or something like that. No doubt, that'll go over BIG in TEXAS. lol

I didn't realize the wedding was supposed to be outside - that's one thing I'd never do - plan an outdoor event. Too much stress that you can't control at all!! But good that they had Plan B!

Angie's really getting scared of the winter ahead, with the rain and cold already. I hope it warms up and you have an Indian Summer yet - for her sake.

Sorry the "kids" are gone for the winter - wow, that went fast. Also the trip to Florida seems to have come so quickly! Have a great time!

What lovely wedding photos. And congrats on the Paws on Parade - wow - what a huge success. Way to go!! I know that you have mentioned in the past all the time that vets put in. Pats on their backs too, it couldn't be done without them.

I hope you have a great time in Florida. Someday I will have to visit that state.
