Spring has sprung, lake house update and more skirt problems........

Spring has sprung here in Maine!  The lawns are green and lush from all of the rain and some of the most daring flowers are peeking their heads out of the ground on the south side of the house.  This is all rather unusual for this time of year.  We have been known to get a whopper of a snowstorm this late in the year more then once.  Everyone is talking about how their oil bill is so much lower this year with the warmer then usual temps we have been having and that's a good thing as Martha would say.

Easter Sunday was lovely and warm.  I remember so many times all dressed in my new Easter dress and hat when I was a child and having to walk through snow to get into the church.  Not much fun in new white patent leather shoes that I didn't want to ruin.

We had wonderful services at our church, I so enjoy singing the old hymns like The Old Rugged Cross and He Arose.  I have yet to learn one of the contemporary praise and worship songs that even begins to compare but that's a rant for another day.  (I'm showing my age here)  During the last song when the trumpet was playing, Funsize was at the piano and then the organist started to play the organ I had goosebumps! We don't normally have much organ music now so it was a real treat.

Son, DIL, Mr. D, Miss T, FIL and the Hubs and I came home and had a nice ham dinner.  I put it in the crock pot on low the night before as it was quite big and it was delicious.  Nothing like nice thick ham sandwiches the next day too.  Sometimes things taste even better the next day.

Things continue to move along at the lake house.  As you can see everything had to be stripped right back to the studs.  All that beautiful knotty pine went in the dumpster.  :o(

DIL and I picked out a few things that will be needed at some point and that was fun.  We have somewhat similar tastes which makes it nice.  This is what the kitchen cupboards are going to look like.  We wanted to keep it rustic looking so chose the oak.

This is the hardware we chose.  I think it is rather unique and rustic looking too.

This is the counter top.  It's not granite but a pretty darned good looking laminate.

We also picked out flooring, windows and some other things but I guess I forgot to take any pictures of them.  The mold is all gone.  The air quality people gave us a clean bill of health.  The electricians are there this week replacing all of the wiring.  Even that got destroyed.  I guess you have to expect that when you have Niagra Falls going through your house!

I continue to make a fool of myself at church..........you must remember the sign I wore all day.......... Well this time was worse.  I was hurrying and unintentionally tucked my skirt into the back of my panty hose and didn't realize it till we got to church and I took my coat off...........I tell you, I am not fit to be out without a leash!  Thank goodness the only ones who got flashed were four ladies and they very discreetly looked away when I made the discovery.  I could see they were trying not to laugh, bless their hearts!

The good news is the signs have been removed from the ushers pew and put on the wall above it!  Sigh.......

Thank you all for you kind comments on Skipper's Story.  Although it was hard to write in some ways it made me feel better and gave me some closure.  It's alway hard losing them, especially so young and so unexpectedly but I believe it was meant to be.  Whether you have dogs, cats, horses or no pets at all I felt you all understood.  Bloggers are the best, especially all of you!!!!

Wow - the lake house is almost like starting from the beginning all over again! I don't think I realised just how big a job it was going to be, but what fun to get to choose new things for it.
Your Easter sounds lovely - here, however, we have the opposite to you re fuel bills. Ours have gone through the roof this winter. It has been the coldest and longest for a very long while. Decades.

I know what you mean about pets - I had to have my border collie put down a few years ago. Sudden and virulent cancer crippled her in weeks, and it nearly broke our hearts. I still miss her.

What am I going to do with you???? You insist on embarrassing yourself. I hate to tell you how many women I have stopped from leaving a public restroom in the same situation. They are always grateful.

The cabin looks awesome. With this weather you will be there soon. Time to get the boat out.

I hope it stays warm for a spell when your folks first return. It would be nice to break them in gently.

When will you bring the boys home for the summer?

Have a wonderful weekend. Be sure that R checks you out before church!! Hugs.

Wow. I need to read more often. Okay, I admit, I snorted when I read this:

"I am not fit to be out without a leash!"

I'll say! ;-)

So wow, the lake house is getting an overhaul. How did that come about??? And Skipper? Say it ain't so! I need to come around and visit more often. I've been missing major news!

I'm sorry. I can't leave a comment because I'm laughing too hard.

Oh, my goodness - how embarrassing! Thank goodness it was only 4 ladies who saw your dilemma!

I am way behind again - just read your final story on Skipper - so sorry again. But I'm glad you wrote it all out for us and for yourself.

Your cabin will be lovely, but am sorry about the knotty pine!

We did get some more snow on Monday night and Tuesday - nuts! It was gone by noon, but still ---

I am so sorry but I must tell you that I had a good laugh about the leash. How cute!!:)
That cabin is sure looking great. Hope to see the finished job.
Our heat bill has been the highest we have ever paid in the winter. It was a brutal one.
Thanks for sharing with us.

Ok, you had me laughing so hard at the thought of you flashing those women behind you, I actually snorted! LOL Really, I think you need to ALWAYS look in the mirror, front and back, before you leave the house! hehe

Oh wow, the lake house definitely is pretty well being built right from the starting stage! I love the cupboards and counter top you chose, as well as the hardware, just gorgeous. Hopefully all the insurance money has come through. People down the street from us had a house fire a year and a half ago and it took almost a year before they saw any money. Terrible.

We woke up to snow yesterday and it snowed again today but by this afternoon the sun came out and it's already starting to melt. Hopefully my crocuses and tulips haven't frozen off!! Not having had any snow for weeks, it figures we'd get some now! lol

Take care of YOU, have a wonderful weekend and...love you to bits:-) xoxoxoxo

I hope you don't mind that I read the part about your skirt to my hubby. I just laughed and laughed. BECAUSE - I did the same thing at a librarians meeting several years ago. Luckily, it was a group of women - all of whom know what a nut I am.

The lake house is such a big project. When do you expect to be able to use it? Will you be in this summer?

Take care and have a great weekend.

I am so envious of your new kitchen counters at the lake house. My house was built in the early '70s and I have ugly formica. My husband is of the, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it," mentality so I despair of ever getting new countertops or cupboards. I will live through your remodeling vicariously.

Blogger was giving me problems with commenting but I just want to say again that I'm so sorry about Kipper. I did enjoy learnning more of his journey.

It's late and I am beat!!! Worked outdoors most of the day. Got all 5 acres mowed and the place looks good if I do say so myself.
I need to just crawl in bed and turn the lights out.I know I won't sleep. I keep wondering what MM is gonna pull in church tomorrow.
Guess we will all have to wait and see!
U know I love ya!!!

You crack me up....I always love your posts! The skirt in the pantyhose! ;)
The lake house remodel looks good, can't believe they had to almost start it from scratch....scary what water damage can do!
I do hope your hearts are all mending from the loss of Skipper....it's never easy, and I can't imagine the day when I have to put My Boy down. My heart will break.
Skip had a happy life with you and there was no better home at which to end his journey.
p.s. organ music gives me goosebumps, too!! So does singing "Amazing Grace" or "Eagles Wings."

Isn't it wonderful to see the spring flowers blooming? My daffodils are putting on a wonderful show.
We had the same gorgeous weather here at Easter. And our service was beautiful too - filled with music, and yes I love singing the Easter hymns, especially Christ The Lord is Risen Today.
The lake house is shaping up nicely. With all those new fixtures, etc. it'll be gorgeous when it's finished.
Happy spring!

P.S. Forgot to say I'm glad you felt better for having written Skipper's story. You have such such a good perspective on life, and a strong faith to help you deal with the tough situations. You're an inspiration for all of us. xox
