Vet Report

We had an encouraging report at the vet's office today. We are not out of the woods yet by any stretch but have made some progress and there was no more rotation of the coffin bone which is a major thing. The x-rays showed some beginnings of an abscess inside the worst hoof so he cut out enough so that could drain. Sorry if you have a weak stomach! It didn't seem to hurt Buddy at all thankfully. I now have to soak his left foot in warm water and Epson salts twice a day which is a big improvement over the cold water with ice in it! I also have to put some Nitroglycerin Ointment on the pulse to try to get that slowed down in his feet. I have to wear rubber gloves as it absorbs into the skin and I don't want it to absorb into my skin. We will try this unless he starts retaining fluid in his legs and underbelly. He still will need the pads on his feet but I have that down to a science so that's no problem and he still will be on the pain med but should be tapering off more all the time. It's already cut in half and he is doing well on that much. My vet was still being careful not to make this sound all fine and dandy as we know it isn't but was pleased with the improvements that we did have.

Thanks to all of you for your thoughts, comments and prayers! I appreciate it soooooooooo much!

oh wow - I am so unbelievably excited that you got "good news" of sorts from the visit today.

You sure a good horse Mama. I love my guys but I would be about to pull my hair out. When we had an abcess, I thought I was going to have a breakdown!

Hang in there! Your love and hard work is paying off!

I am so glad to read that Buddy's condition seems to have improved. He obviously has one heck of a nurse taking care of him. Hopefully he will continue on the road to recovery.
