Thanksgiving 2009

Five batches of yeast rolls, 38 pounds of turkey ( one 23 pounds and one 15 pounds), 10 pounds of potatoes, five pies, various goodies like peanut butter balls and frosted brownies and lots of salads and veggies and Thanksgiving is over for another year.  We had 25 friends and family members here and had a lovely time laughing, talking and of course eating!

Everyone helped and the kitchen was just a-buzzing with activity.

We even had to use Mom and Dad's kitchen as we had four ovens going at once!  We also loaded up their dishwasher too as we had tons of dishes to do.

One thing that everyone had fun doing was playing on the computer with the Elf Yourself.  Hopefully this link will work and you can see some of what the kids were coming up with.  I laughed till I almost.........ahem........guess I won't continue with that!  This is Miss T, D and Cousin K.

We set the tables up the day before and brought up all the extra chairs out of the basement and from Mom and Dad's apartment.

We even had to set up a table on the sunporch which was cozy and warm.

DIL and her Mom, Mimi.

I always enjoy getting up early and putting the turkeys in the oven.  It's quiet and peaceful and gives me a chance to think about the day and for all the things that I am thankful for.  The list is too long to put in this post but mostly for my family and extended family I am so thankful.  Each and every one of them holds a special place in my heart and even though Mom and Dad are in Florida they were here with us in our hearts.  Also for a loving God that gave His Son for each and every one of us, the ultimate gift that we all should be thanking Him for each and every day of our lives.

So now all that's left is the putting away of all the special dishes and of course eating the left overs.  I sent most of  them home with anyone who wanted and only kept enough for a meal or two for the Hubs and me.  The raccoons feasted on one of the turkey carcasses and the other went home with my sister to make a soup.  The squirrels have been enjoying some of the walnuts that were left and the bluejays have been snatching up the other nuts that I have been throwing out to them.  They enjoy a feast too!

All in all it was a wonderful day, even when I discovered the grands coming down the staircase in pillows from the beds upstairs!  Yikes!  The pictures are blurry but you get the drift.

Sorry this one is sideways !

The day ended sitting around the fireplace in the living room and the stove in the sunroom.  I took a nap after everyone went home and then watched a couple of nice movies on the Hallmark channel.  I love that channel, the stories are clean and uplifting even though a bit sappy at times.  I will take sappy over all of the violence and stuff on some of the other channels any day.

Next post I will put in the yeast roll recipe and do the bow tutorial as some of you have asked.  Also I would like to say that I am thankful for all of you that I have met out in Bloggsville.  I have made some wonderful friends that I know would help me out in an instant if I needed something.  You make me laugh, I cry with you when you hurt and enjoy all of your posts and comments immensely!  xoxoxox

Mmmmmmm You made me hungry all over again MM! ;) I thought of you too, as the smoked bird was inhaled at a rapid pace. Bet you would enjoy that! It was the first time we smoked it, and boy howdy was it GOOD.

Cant wait to see how to make the yeast rolls. They look amazing!!

Much love all around from our little corner of the south- ~MM

Sounds like a lovely day, and everything looked beautiful. We had a small crowd this year - only 11 of us at my folks' place - Dad wanted to do the turkey this year and I was willing to have the mess at their house for this year!

I am alone today and enjoying the quiet. I used to get right on putting up the decorations this day, but don't have the energy. And I certainly don't want to get swept up in Black Friday! I do need to get going on thinking about it, though, because the shopping is still in the future - I'm having a hard time getting into that spirit this year. I'm listening to lovely Christmas music and reading a good book today.

I need to get a post done, too. I have it in my head, but taking the time to get it down here will have to come soon.

Do I sound lazy or what???

Looks and sounds as though it was a wonderful holiday celebration.
Your pictures are great!
As I said on FB, the best part is having all the family together. Our son's family wasn't here, but all the rest came, feasted and made merry!
Now to get into Christmas mode. I just have to get busy! Haven't bought one gift yet.. Yikes!
It will happen whether I'm ready or not, so better quit dawdling.
love you,
xoxo

Sounds like a perfectly wonderful day. We, too, had a delightful Thanksgiving. A wonderful meal, wonderful family and friends. We are home again, safe and sound. This was a nice respite as we have some tough things coming up in the days ahead. Prayers will be appreciated.

It sounds like it was a perfect day. I know how much you enjoy the festivities and having the family around. Your tables and decorations all looked so gorgeous. I don't know how you remember to take photos. I am always so busy that I never think about the camera. Such a shame too!!!!

Our big day is tomorrow so it has been a hectic Black Friday with cooking, setting tables, etc. One nice thing is that our big Christmas dinner is next weekend so I don't need to take many tables down....just change colors on the tablecloths and reset with the Christmas dishes.

How was shopping today? I thought about you out there with the crowds.

Have a great week, my dear friend. xoxox

We had almost all the same food! Your rolls look lovely. I always make maple butter to serve with our homemade rolls at the holidays and that is a big success.

Oh I loved seeing your Thanksgiving day. It looked almost like ours at my Moms house. We had about 22 people. I can't wait for the recipe and to see the bow tutorial. I have missed some posts on your blog so I am going to catch up on them now. Hope you are doing well.

Omigosh, that elf video had me giggling so much, the kids did a great job with it! hehe

Sounds like it was a perfect Thanksgiving and I so enjoyed seeing all the pictures. Look at the smiles on everyones' faces:-) I really miss having the whole family here for holidays but come March of next year, we will be having a family reunion at my brother Guy's place, the one who has the Sugar Bush. My two older brothers from BC and their gfs are flying down to join us:-) It will be wonderful to have mom and us 5 kids together again under one roof!!

Ya know, you could have sent me a plate full of turkey with all the trimmings!! I'm still waitingggggggg!!! hehe The food looked so delicious and I can well imagine how stuffed everyone felt afterwards:-)

I've been busy the last couple of days doing some Christmas baking and am almost done. Next will be to start the shopping for presents!! Hope your weekend is a great one, dear friend. Love you to bits. xoxoxo

Time spent feasting with family and friends is such a blessing. Glad you had a wonderful day. The food looks absolutely delicious. I love all the leftovers too :)
I'm like Needled Mom...I don't get many photos taken because there's always so much to do. I only took a few. Yours are great, full of happy, smiling faces :)
We're enjoying the quiet time now. Shopping and Christmas cards are next on the list!
We'll connect one of these days. Right now I can barely talk. Came down with a scratchy throat this morning and it's getting steadily worse. I've caught Hubby's cold! He's been suffering with one all week, poor guy.
Happy belated Thanksgiving!
