Soggy Wednesday

Can you believe I just turned the heat on in the house? It's July people, this just doesn't seem right does it?! It's raining again today, it has rained almost steadily for over a month with just a 'sprinkling' of sunny days thrown in! I couldn't resist using 'sprinkling'! Rock Star Pony down at Mrs. Mom's is going to send Kipper up his water wings to use, thank you RSP!!

My pastures are taking a beating with deep hoof prints all over the place. Will have to roll the little front pasture as it's a mess with mud up over the horses hooves. Can't use that one right now, it's going to have to dry out a lot before I can. The vet says there is a lot of rain rot going on and laminitis. The new grass has so much water and sugar in it and is hard on the horses. I'm limiting the pasture time for my guys. Funsize puts them out about six in the morning, I put them in for the afternoon and then they go out for an hour or so after supper while we do night barn chores. They are used to being out for 12 hours a day but not now. I've had enough founder to deal with and don't want any more.

Things sure are quiet out in Bloggsville! I tried to play Pay It Forward and only got one dear soul to play, thank you Needled Mom!! Comments are few and far between and I miss them. Thank you to those that do leave them. I know blogging isn't all about comments but they are a fun part of it aren't they? It makes me feel connected to my friends all over the US, Canada and UK. Linds over at Rocking Chair Reflections wrote a really nice post about summer and the quietness of blogging, she has a really nice way with words that I could only wish for.

Yesterday on our way home from Miss T's riding lesson we were stopped at a stop sign and Miss T said "Grammie look there's a deer and two babies"! I hadn't even noticed, neither had Mimi, Miss T's other Grammie! We watched them for a few minutes but by the time I got the camera out the twins were hidden in the high grass but you could still see mommy deer right by the corner of that building.

We also have nightly visitors. Two moms come to clean out the bird feeders and feast on marshmallows and peanuts each night after dinner. One mom is now bringing her babies with her and they are so cute. This one is sitting right on his little be-hind! They will clean up every seed with only the peanut shells left to be swept off in the morning. Hummmmm........this reminds me, Hubby asked me a month ago to get the porch painted.........oops!

As I said yesterday was Miss T's lesson. The rain had stopped long enough to get the hour in thankfully. It was cold though, my feet in sandals were freezing by the time the lesson was over. Is this July or October?

A nice easy canter.

Going through the keyhole, make that pony canter!

There's a new pony at the barn. He is so cute and what a sturdy pony! He was used for eventing before he came to be a lesson pony so he is rather headstrong at this point. He will be schooled by the stable owner and gals like this one that are more advanced riders.

Well Miss T and Cousin K just got up so I guess I'd better get some breakfast going. They spent the night after we celebrated DIL's birthday. I cooked steaks OUT IN THE RAIN but they tasted good and I guess I didn't melt. Happy Birthday to the best DIL in the world!! We struck gold with this one!

And I know what a great MIL you are to her. Both of you are blessed.

I can't believe the amount of cold and rain you have had this year. It is a shame since your summers are so short anyway.

I do hope that you will have no problems with the boys during this deluge. It is nice to have a place to keep them out of the dampness. I'm sure they would much rather be out in it.

Only one PIF??? Why don't you try it again in the fall when folks have a little more free time for blogging? Yes, I did read Lind's blog on the quietness out there right now. I, too, love the way she writes. I could read it all day long.

I suppose all the the wild creatures are also be affected by the wet conditions. are you seeing more than normal or less?

It has been nice to get a little sewing time in after the busy life we've had this past year. It does my mind and soul good. The pillows were made from a free download on the internet. If you want to make a few, let me know and I'll find the site again.

Gotta get running as I have a Dr. appt. this a.m. Hope things dry out for you soon. Enjoy the kiddos! Hugs.

I was going to play PIF but figured I was too late. That's how it usually is for me. But right now I am coveting your rain, the grass is always greener on the other side, huh? Because it is sunny, sunny, sunny in California.

Hi There,

I know what you are saying about comments. I think people just get really busy in the summer. I have had trouble finding to time to read, comment and post the past couple of weeks.

Like you, we are having rain, rain, rain. God blessed us with mostly dry mornings during VBS, but it rained every afternoon and during the night most nights. Jim and I worked so hard on the garden and it was looking sooo good, but I'm afraid the weeds will take over if we can't soon get in there to weed. Whenever it storms in the night, Jim rolls over and says, "Another day we won't get in the garden."

And it's cold! I haven't put the heat on in the house yet, but I got out of bed last night and put another blanket on my side of the bed. I was freezing, especially my poor feet.

Yesterday I was out to dinner with some girl friends and we commented, just as you did, that it seemed more like October than July.

My post today was about the beach. I am longing for some real beach weather. We are off to Boston and Martha's Vineyard next week and I'm worried about the weather. Not so much in Boston, we can tour no matter what, but MV? I don't intend to go in the water, but would like a little sun on the beach.

Well, there, is that a long comment, or what? Now that VBS is over, I have a little time to myself. Although, we are off to Boston on Tuesday, arrive home the following Sunday and I'm off to Las Vegas again on Wednesday. Oh, the life of a retired librarian!! LOL.

I'll close with hippo hugs to you and your lovely family.

So much to catch up on! I have been terrible about keeping up. Summer seems so busy some days.

I am sorry to hear about the rain, but I'd love some of yours and some chilliness too. lol!

Sounds like you have been keeping busy too. Lesson photos are great and I love the little bandits. I am so glad to see I am not the only one who feeds them. People get so angry. Our neighbor even chases them with a broom. *sigh* I've never tried marshmallows or peanuts though. Have to try that one.

Things are indeed quiet in Blogville lately. Several of the people I used to follow have moved to Facebook or Twitter, and hardly blog at all. I have NO use for Twitter; I do enjoy Facebook because of friends and relatives who post there who never would think about blogging. Still, I like my blogging.

I'll send along some of the warm weather for you too!!

I miss commenting, and I admit, I try my best to read here but I do miss letting you know I was here now and again. (Bad Mrs Mom!) But please know that we ARE here, and we DO love you muchly!!

Look at Miss T go there!!! WHOOOHOOOO!! Cowgirl In The Making! ;) Give her a high five from me please- she is doing a fine fine job on that pony.

I'd say stay dry, but you'd likely throw a mud ball at me ;) (Don't worry- back to rains daily here too.... but not as much as you!!)

Hey isn't there an old saying about the amount of snow matching up with the amount of summer rains???...... Guess we wait and see!

I have indeed noticed the bloggy break people are on. It happens every summer, but never this bad. So many friends are addicted to Facebook and it's affecting blogging. I keep avoiding FB because I'm afraid of another addiction.

Man, I hope the rain stops soon! I'm afraid Kev's going to get fungus on his feet!
