Cooking With Miss T

Oh my, it's Wednesday already. Will someone please put the brakes on time for a while! Summer is fast fleeting around here with mornings in the 40's. The air is crisp which is just exactly what I like. I have a friend that just luuuuveeesss hot humid weather. I think she is nuts.

I know many of you read The Pioneer Woman as I do. I think Ree is just a hoot and has some wonderful stick to your ribs type recipes on her blog. These are not for you salad and fat free yogurt types but for those of us meat and potato people they are great.

T spent the day with me last Monday and wanted to help me get dinner ready so I had her make dessert. It was a new recipe that Pioneer Woman had just posted called Apple Dumplings. This is not low-cal and I wouldn't make it every night, although it was good enough to do that, but for a special treat you can't beat this funky culinary delight.

Apple Dumplings

2 Granny Smith apples
2 cans crescent rolls
2 sticks butter
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 teaspoons vanilla
cinnamon
1 small can Mountain Dew

Peel and core apples. Cut apples into 8 slices each. Roll each apple slice in a crescent roll. Place in a 9 x 13 buttered pan. Melt butter, then add sugar and barely stir. Add vanilla, stir, and pour over apples. Pour Mountain Dew around the edges of the pan. Sprinkle with cinnamon and bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes. Serve with ice cream, and spoon some of the sweet sauce from the pan over the top.

Go to thepioneerwoman.com and click on desserts for her pictures and directions if you want but here are ours:
Let me tell you these things are to die for! Eat them piping hot with a scoop of ice cream and you will be in hog heaven! Amen.

My little itty bitty gal pals over at Izzy and Emmy's tagged me for a meme. You can see their button on my sidebar. I'm supposed to list 6 weird things about myself. Some days I feel like everything is weird but let me see if I can come up with some that you don't already know.

1. I don't like perfume, I would rather smell fresh hay or newly cut grass.
2. I don't like fresh tomatoes but I do like them cooked in just about anything.
3. I think cows stink but LOVE the smell of horses.
4. I don't like to be interrupted when I am in the middle of a project, but does anyone?
5. I am not a numbers person and never balance my check book, that's what the receipt from the ATM is for!
6. If I am over tired I very often dream that I am back in my hair salon doing hair. The bad part is nothing good happens, it's always that I am WAY behind with 25 people waiting or someones hair turns purple or falls out on the floor.

Nancy over at Nancy's Nonsense has given all of her readers multiple awards! You can find them on my sidebar and I would like to pass them along to all of my readers. You all are very special to me and I enjoy your posts so much! Nancy has the biggest heart when it comes to her beautiful cats. She goes to great lengths to see that they have the best care possible. Go on over and check her out, you will be impressed with all she does! :o)

I have a long time friend coming this morning for a visit. She has moved about 30 miles away so I don't see her that often so this is a real treat. We always pick right up as if we saw each other an hour ago not months ago. True friends are like that. :o)

Those dumplings look like they are to die for, but Mounta*in D*ew???? That was an interesting ingredient. Think I may just have to give them a try since the apples are just about ready for picking.

T does look like she is enjoying the project so I may have to wait for the grands to come help.

The days are definitely getting shorter here. It is quite cool --YUCK -- here this a.m. We have had so many foggy and cool mornings this summer. I can't wait for those hot Santa Ana winds to start blowing. I just wish that they were not so destructive.

Interesting meme. Still doing hair after all these years? My mom still teaches in her dreams.

Have a wonderful visit. It is always such fun to have friends that one can pick up right where they left off.

Hugs, my friend.

Yum! Those apple dumplings look delish and my apples are ready. T
T does look like a very good helper in the kitchen. Those little cans of soda look just her size :)
Your meme was interesting, especially the dream. I always dream I'm balancing books, since I was a bookkeeper. Sometimes I'm way way back and running a telephone switchboard. Nothing seems to go right though, wonder why that it??
Have a great visit with your friend. We're absolutely roasting here today..
love you!

The apple dumplings look delicious and the photos are great. What an enjoyable time. I often cook with the boys and it is a time of bonding.

School starts on Tuesday. It seems the spring and summer flew by. I enjoy spring and fall when it is cooler. I also dislike hot, humid weather.

Be sure to drop by my Writing Nook and enter my Harvest Giveaway.

Blessings,
Mary

I have been making those dumplings for years, so quick and easy and delish! Also have you tried the Cinnamon Cheesecake bars? They are made with crescent rolls, cream cheese mixture, yum-o as well! Now I need to make some! Kiddos to you for letting and teaching her to cook. so many woman my age don't know how, so sad really! Little Cowgirl has been helping me since she was old enough to stand!

I don't wear perfume either! Great meme~!

Have a great visit with your old friend!

I agree with you: your friend who likes hot and humid weather is nuts! LOL! Fall is my favorite time of year - cool and crisp.

Mountain Dew on apple dumplings? Interesting addition. But I've got to give it a try. I love anything to do with baked apples this time of year!

I like your meme answers, and so agree: cows stink! LOL!

Sounds like my kind of weather - it is very fallish today and I LOVE it. But I"m not ready for snow!

The apple dumplings look sinfully delicious! I'm afraid they don't fit in my eating plan, but sure wish they did!! YUMMMM. I love granny smiths for taking.

I'm with you on #1 - I am allergic to perfume and the whole world seems to think that everything has to have a scent added - I can't even read magazines that put those silly strips in them to see the new scent. Did you know they have lists for people like me so they send us unscented magazines. That says something to me!

Holy smokes, those apple dumplings look amazing. But because I'm not much for baking, I think I'll head to McDonald's and get an apple pie or two! I'll just pretend they are homemade apple dumplings. You wouldn't be willing to ship a batch to Washington for a pregnant gal who would rather be riding the range than cooking on one, would you? ;)

I agree with everyone else here, those apple dumplings look scrumtious! They sound easy to make, too. T looks so sweet helping.

Interesting meme. Enjoyed your answers. Have fun with your friend!

LOL

It's very cool during the nights and early mornings here as well and like you, I love it! I was out on the deck to feed the stray kitty at 7 this morning and it was only about 38F but I enjoyed it! lol

Enjoyed reading your answers to the Weird Meme...wow, are you ever weird!!! lol Just teasing you!! I'm always dreaming that I find an old house, go up in the attic and find all kinds of treasures like vintage dishes, etc...such a bummer when I wake up! lol Well...I'm glad I DO wake up but you know what I mean!!!

Hope your visit with your friend went well:-) Love you loads!! xoxoxo

Wow! Those dumplings look so good! T is a good cook! I can't believe that you are already having such cold weather! It seems like it just got hot for y'all. Ours is heating back up! It still looks like it wants to rain though. I am glad that you got to spend time at the lake! You won't have many more summer days to enjoy out there this year! Take care!

OH, MY GOSH!!! Your little granddaughter is just the cutest little baker I've ever seen!!! She looks to be enjoying it, too!!!! I will have to try that recipe one of these days!!! They look absolutely scrumptious!!!! You are just the best Grandma east of the Mississippi!!!!! Look at all the beautiful and fun memories you are making for that little girl! I carry the memories of both my grandmothers in my heart to this day!

You are just so sweet to write such kind words about my caring for my cats. They get the care they deserve. I feel if a person is going to have pets, then you have to give them the medical care they need, too. I love mine like children, even the ferals I have!

I must check out Pioneer Woman soon!!! Sounds like she ahs some great recipes!!! And I love to bake!!!
