October has arrived!

Happy October!

Can you believe it's October already?! Now is the time to get out all the Halloween decorations to add to the fall things! From now till Christmas I will be on a decorating frenzy! Yippee!

The hurricane missed us! Yea! We got lots of rain but no wind at all. I guess it went east to Nova Scotia but haven't heard how hard they got hit. We were ready though with things tied down, awnings rolled up and windows nailed shut in the barn. I was surprised when I got up that morning and there wasn't even a leaf or branch on the ground. Thankful!

Mom's surgery went well. She will be moved from the hospital Thursday to a rehab facility via ambulance as she is not able to get in and out of a car yet. As of yesterday they had not gotten her out of bed but may have done that after I came home. The nursing staff has been wonderful and is taking really good care of her. The first morning after surgery was a bit rough coming off the mor#phine but since then she has been in her right mind and doing well.

This is not a surgery for the faint of heart. This is more then what I had expected and will have a fairly long recuperation period. Our goal is for her to be able to move around pain free and from all accounts this will be the outcome. Thank you for all your prayers for her during this time, it helps! We have tried to stagger our visits so that she isn't alone much but yesterday she had so much company they put a sign on her door saying that she couldn't have any more. She was tired and needed to rest. I will head up this morning after 10 as they don't like people to come in earlier as they are doing baths and such. Again, thank you for thinking of her and for the prayers!

Yesterday when I came home one of our neighbors two boxer dogs were in the pasture sniffing around our horses. These dogs are huge and very aggressive. The owners have been fined for letting them run loose and had been doing better keeping them in but this is the second time in two weeks that I have had to chase them off my property. This time one of them charged me and I grabbed the barn broom for protection. I love dogs but I think they have their place and it isn't in my pasture bothering my horses. :o(

I called the owners to come help me and the husband came over and caught them. He apologized profusely and said that with their young son they really didn't have time for the dogs and were thinking about giving the big male away and just keeping the smaller female. I told him that the male had charged me and that I was concerned that this might happen to one of my grandchildren if they were in my yard playing which is very often the case. He agreed so we will see what happens. They are beautiful dogs but are mostly kept in the basement and never, ever walked, in the two years they have lived here I have never seen them out with the dogs. Sad.

I forgot to dvr Dancing With The Stars last night so don't know who got the boot. You have to give Cloris Leachman the tip of the old fedora for getting out there at 82 years old and doing some of the moves that she is doing! I can't imagine that she didn't get booted last night though. Wasn't she on the Mary Tyler Moore Show years ago?

Well Funsize just drove in to do chores. She has a business trip for a few days this week so one of my other nieces Stinky Sox will fill in helping me with the barn. It's getting to be almost time for the boys to go back to the stable. I dread it more every year as I miss them so much when they aren't here. They will go back before we go to Florida on October 18th, probably the 17th. T hates it when they aren't here too. She's my chip off the ole' block. She and D came over last evening with Son carrying Noodles who had gone over to their house for a visit. He loves the kids and sneaks over every so often.
You know, I think I have a pretty good sense of humor but sometimes I just don't see the humor in certain things. I took a lot of pictures when we went pumpkin picking a couple weeks ago and I made up a slide show with some of the pictures. My computer teacher guy was here last week giving me a lesson and I showed him the slide show. Well the last picture is one of two scarecrows that were set up for photo ops. I didn't even notice till I was sitting here with Steve that a carrot had been placed strategically on one of the scarecrows......use your imagination........ahem.. Now I can't believe the owners did this as this is a child friendly place to visit, my guess is that someone thought it was funny to make the scarecrow anatomically correct if you get my drift. If my computer guy noticed he was very gracious not to let on and believe me after he left I cropped that photo to a respectable version! Good grief!
Thank you all for making me feel better about the stinky petrified potato in my cupboard under my sink!! lol! Some of you had some other stinky situations besides potatoes! The dead mouse in the wall was a good one and just cracked me up when you wrote that you 'just have to ride that one out'! One of you thought it was a toad, that was a good one too!!

Guess that's it for today. Will try to get around to visit everyone today, have gotten behind this week with all that's been going on here with Mom. Hope you all are having a wonderful week!!!

I am so glad your Mom is doing so well! I hope she is pain free soon, and able to egt about easily.
Not so nice re the dogs - especially the one who charged you. I don't understand why people have them if they lock them up all day and never take them for walks. Sad.

And thank heavens the storm skipped your place! What a relief!

Great, fun post. My MIL tells me that my husband made an anatomically correct snowman when he was a little guy. He was a child, what you described is just "childish" and crude.

Glad the hurricane skipped you. Also good news about your mom.

The dog situation makes me sad. If you can't care for a dog, then don't have it.

Okay, enough ranting. Have a happy day.

It makes things tense between neighbors when a dog is running....been there! I don't mind the neighbors dog being here but I don't want mine to start running!!!!

So good to catch up on all your news.
I know you're relieved that your Mom came through her surgery so well. How long will she have to be at the rehab center?
Those dogs sound troublesome. I hope that isn't the same one that bit your granddaughter?
Good thing you caught that about the carrot on the scarecrow. Talk about poor taste!
Well, it's a beautiful day and we're tackling the cleaning of our garden shed.
Enjoy the rest of the week!
love you!

Glad you all were missed by the hurricane!

I can beat the dead mouse in the wall. We recently had a very large dead chipmonk that the cat had released die in the wall. Two smelly weeks of riding that one out! Good grief on the scarecrow! A couple of winters ago, some neighbors down the road, I assume teenagers or very young adults sculpted a P**** and parts that go with it out of the snow in their front yard! It must have been 7 or 8 ft tall. We were gobsmacked to say the least. Of course in our childish self, we did laugh at it, but totally inappropriate for small children passing by. Explain that snowman, Mommy! Yikes!

Glad to hear your Mom is on the mend!

Soooo glad to hear that your mom is doing better. Yes, that is no minor surgery.

Can you imagine what would have happened had you posted the scarecrow photo? Probably some kids trying to be funny.

I love the new Halloween look to your blog. Between the flys and spiders, I would say you must be "bugged."

The dog event is so scary. We just had a five year old attacked and killed by a neighbor's pit bull last week. There is no excuse for them getting out so often.

Have a great weekend.

Glad your mom is doing better. I knew that surgery was a rough one...believe I mentioned that to you. It will be well worth it once she gets back on her feet. I did think of her and prayed for her the day of her surgery.

Those dogs are trouble. What if they attacked your grands or your horses? Sad that they live in a basement, though. They were probably so happy to be out in the fresh air and running free, but they should be in their OWN fenced backyard!

The scarecrow thing.....good thing you caught it! What some kids or people won't do, huh?

So glad the hurricane missed you! I was up during the night watching the Weather Channel about it, and you came to mind immediately! Flad it was a happy ending for your area!

Keep us posted on your mom's progress now.

(((((( HUGS ))))))

So glad to hear your Mom came through the operation well. I had a hip operation in December of 2005, after a fall, and it was a while, but I mended well, thank the Lord. But I am afraid to get back on a horse now.

I'm also glad the storm passed you by for the most part.

I enjoyed this post as always. Have a great rest of the week.

Hugs,

Renie

I'm so sorry about the dogs... You need a long piece of cane pole. That will keep the dogs away. If all else fails you could "spank" the neighbor. LOL. I was raised to take care of your critters. If it was a pet , it was a family member. If it was food.DON'T get attached to it. BUT, take care of it regardless.
I'm glad your Mom's surgery turned out ok. When she's mobile again you won't be able to keep up.
I'm glad the hurricane missed you.The only thing we had was wind, and a little rain. It did get very windy though, one man was killed by a tree falling on his mobile home.
God bless, Donna

Happy October to you too my friend! Is it ok if I park my broom beside yours? hehe

Wonderful news that your mom's surgery went well...my prayers are with her for a complete recovery! It's such a relief when you know she's being well taken care of, isn't it! Please keep us updated on her recovery!!

Oh dear, I do hope your neighbours do get rid of that dog. The male being aggressive like that and even charging at you is NOT a good thing. As you say, it could come after one of the grandchildren one day. It's sad, though, that these dogs aren't getting the proper care of being walked every day. Being stuck in a basement is not what dogs are made for!!!!

I don't watch DWTS but I had heard that Chloris Leachman was one of the contestants...she's amazing for 82 years old! Yes, she did act in the Mary Tyler Moore show as the nosy neighbour Phyllis! lol

Oops, I clicked "published" before I was done! lol

I'm still giggling at the scarecrow with the strategically placed carrot! LOL Good thing your computer guy noticed it!

Take care of YOU and know that I love you! xoxoxo

Thank you for visiting my blog and signing up for the giveaway. Good Luck in the drawing. Did you go to the others and sign up too?

I love your blog, I'll be sure to come back again.

I'm glad no one was hurt by the dogs. I love dogs but their owners need to keep them in check and off of other people's property.

Such a nice newsy catch-up. I was pretty sure you could set me straight on the gender of the horse! I don't know a quarter horse from a nickel horse (ha!) I do know an appaloosa when I see one!

So - that business with the carrot is totally disgusting. What a world we live in. I am so with you on the language in movies thing - I often wonder if the lack of bad language "offends" people who talk that way like the inclusion of it offends us. I just ruins a good story so many times. Sad.

Glad the wind missed you. Sorry the horses have to go away! Also sorry for the poor dogs next door. I never can understand why people have dogs if they're not going to love them.

I couldn't believe it when I heard Cloris Leachman was going to be dancing - I knew she was getting up there! 82, eh? Wow - I should give a look - but it's probably too late. Yes, she was Phyllis both on MTM and on her own show - played her obnoxious part very well! She had a few parts on Touched By an Angel as an elderly, very goofy angel.

My dad has had both knees replaced and it is a miraculous surgery. I hope it goes wonderfully for her!

Thanks for visiting Kristen - she's doing so amazingly well. Getting all A's so far!

Hi there -

I'm so glad your Mom's surgery went well. Please tell her we're all sending good thoughts her way for a speedy recovery.

That's too bad about those boxers. What do people think when they bring an animal home?? I don’t understand how someone could leave a pet in the basement, or chained up in the yard all the time. What's the point of having a dog?

(climbing down from my soapbox...)

I'm happy the storm passed you by. Enjoy the fall weather!

PS - guess who I had lunch with yesterday? Our dear friend Mary! Was your nose itching? We talked about how much we enjoy your blog! :-)
