Family Weekend

This weekend was truly family oriented. My favorite kind of weekend. Saturday afternoon the kids came over and we had a fire in the fire pit. I didn't have any marshmallows but did have some hot dogs that they cooked. D decided he didn't want to eat his after he had cooked it. It was charcoal on the outside and cold on the inside. Guess one of the raccoons got that one. Yum!

T, D, and Cousin K had fun riding their bikes around the barn and around the circle in front of our house. They used the swings, jumping off higher then I would have liked but remained intact. Later that afternoon we decided to go to our favorite truck stop for supper. Yes, this is a truck stop. It's right off Interstate 95 near here and there are always lots of big rigs in the parking lot. The truckers know where to find good home cooked food. No frozen nuked food for them.

We mainly go there for the homemade yeast rolls. Sometimes they are white sometimes wheat, either way they are just to die for right out of the oven. Everything is home cooked, turkey dinner is the real thing, not turkey roll or imitation turkey. The pies and other desserts are made right there, I like the grape nut custard with a little real whipped cream on top. Or bread pudding. Or peach cobbler.

The other thing they are known for is their baked beans. They also are to die for, they must use lots of molasses and cook them for a long time as they are never hard like BB's. (Not like my one futile attempt at baking beans.) :o( Anyhow we all had a nice supper (you can't call it dinner at a truck stop) and came home. We gave the kids their Easter baskets and they had fun going through everything. They loved their beach towels that I posted pictures of last week also all the other goodies.

Sunday morning the church was full to the brim and the fellowship sweet. Funsize, Hubby, Son and I were on usher duty along with several others and we were busy finding spots here and there to tuck more people in. I like ushering. I get to see everyone and chat a minute or three with them plus greet new folks that have come in. Funsize played the accompaniment for the ladies singing group Adoration and it was beautiful. She is playing more and more all the time and I have a feeling she will be the church pianist at some point. :o) Cousin K wanted to help with the offering so we put an usher tag on him and he did a really good job.

After the service we all went to the Muddy Rudder for lunch. They have a nice buffet plus you can order off the menu which is what I prefer to do. I tend to load my plate up too much going through a buffet line.........

I have a bad cold so when we came home from lunch I decided to read a bit and take a nap. T called and wanted to come over so I told her I was going to nap for a few minutes so she came anyway and crawled in bed with me and was out in two minutes. We slept a couple of hours! Guess she was tired too. We got up and roped Grampie into playing Clue with us for a while. She beat us, and we didn't just let her, she guessed right! She and Grampie went riding on the Rhino but I was in my pj's so stayed put. There was no evening service as the pastor wanted us all to have family time so there was no youth group either. Grampie took T home about 7 as there was school today and it seemed very quiet around here from such a busy weekend.

Today my yard man is here doing some spring clean up. Lots of leaves and branches to clear out plus tree limbs to be trimmed that were damaged by all the snow. I am waiting for the counter top people to arrive. It's almost 10 and I haven't seen them yet so hope they still plan to do the counter top today. Once that is done things should move along really quickly. Yea!

Hope you all had a wonderful Easter weekend with your families! :o)

Ooooooh you were first to comment on my blog this morning so maybe I can be first on yours too! lol I'm so sorry to hear that you have a nasty cold...honest, I didn't mean to pass it on to you!!!! I'm pretty much over mine now so hopefully yours won't last much longer either!

Sounds like a fun Easter you had:-) I always say that children make the holidays so much more fun and that's why I'm looking forward to when Lily is a bit older and can go on Easter egg hunts and such.

To tell you the truth, quite often I prefer a diner/truck stop to a fancy restaurant! As you say, you get such good home cooked meals at those truck stops. You'll have to come over to taste my baked beans, I use my gran's recipe and they are soooo delish:-)

Feel better soon my friend. Love you lots! xoxoxox

We had a great EAster week-end, too. Well, except for the weather. Lots of pix and stuff on my latest update.

I can't believe all of your snow is gone! Around here, it's really nice spring weather for about 2 days, then more snow, then a couple more nice days, then some more yuck, then about 2 more nice days, then suddenly it's hot.

I can't wait to hear from Kev about the black flies!

Yes, a family Easter weekend has to be the best! And your sounds like it great such fun.

How sweet of T to nap along with you. True devotion! :-)

We had a beautiful, sunny day Saturday, and Greg actually did a lot of outdoor work. He lives 200 miles from me, so when he is here, he is always busy doing things that would be too hard for me to do, and lately, that's a lot of things. Easter Sunday was overcast with a threat of rain. Easter Mass was so beautiful, and our church was packed as well. They had to get some chairs set up in the isles for people that were standing. After church, Greg and his girl friend took us to a larger town 50 miles away, for an Easter Buffet. Yep, I had the buffet. Oh, it was so good, and the waiters, (or would they be helpers, since it was a buffet?) were mostly young, handsome guys. Eileen and I had more fun flirting with them! Haha. As we were heading home, the skies broke loose and it rained the rest of the day. But we enjoyed it back at the house, just chatting and being together, and having a late desert. My older son and family are arriving tomorrow evening for a few days, and we'll celebrate Easter Wednesday with them. Can't wait.

Oh, I'd better stop now, before I fill up a page with my comment! I hope you'll feel better soon, Louise! (I take a combination of zinc and vitamin C for a cold, and it really helps.)

Sounds like you had a wonderful weekend with your family. That is the best way to celebrate. Your church service sounds like it was a real celebration of the resurrection.

Hope the counter people have arrived.

I love that T took a nap with you. How sweet.

You had quite the family weekend, for sure! Love truck stop food myself, but I haven't had any in quite a long time now.

Love the weinie roast with the kids! We used to do that in our backyard on cool nights and then we'd all sit all wrapped up around the fire! Our neighbors used to join us, and it was such fun!

Dear little T loves her grandma, doesn't she? How cute that she napped with you! I was just telling someone today these afternoon naps are no longer a luxury but a necessity! LOL

I am still working on the tile...14 down now! ha-ha I am getting there, slow but sure! I only had 4 laid in the pic on my last post. Rained here today but all I could do was 4, and then I was all pooped out! LOL

Have a great week now! I'll be checking back for more pics of your kitchen remodel! I know you must be so anxious to get it all done and everything put away again.

I hope that by now you are done with that cold. Those things can really drain the energy in a hurry, can't they. But....that snuggle and nap with T sounds like a good cure to me.

We always say that the truck stops have the best food. Was this the same place that the beans got spilled on you last year?

Your Easter weekend sounded perfect. Ours was family oriented too. R&L were home with their little one so it was a full house with my mom still here. Busy, busy, busy these days.

I can't wait to see updated pictures of the kitchen progress. Any idea of when they will finish up?

Your folks should be home any day now...right? I thought about them when the Tampa area was under a tornado watch this week. That is always a worry.

Have a great weekend, my friend. Hugs.
