Talent Show

Last night was the Calvary Baptist Talent Show Extravaganza and pot luck supper. I don't know what was the best to tell you the truth, I have never seen such a spread of good things to eat in my life. There's one thing about us Baptists we sure know how to eat! lol! There were casseroles of all different varieties, baked beans, tossed salads, jello salads, ham, chicken, rolls, carrot salad, blueberry gelatin salad that was to die for, I HAVE to get that recipe and many, many other things to choose from. I don't know how the performers could do their acts after a meal like that but they did and they did it well.

I won't have any pictures to post for a week as my son forgot his digital camera so I had to ask someone to take pictures with their regular camera and they will have them put on disk for me and give it to me next Sunday.

I think the hit of the show was the two little gals that sang and tap danced. They were about 5 and 6 years old and had on adorable outfits with the little fluffy feathery things on their heads. It was soooooooooo cute! You could hear the ohs and ahs all over the room. The double men's Barber Shop Quartet was excellent too and caused quite a stir. One of my nieces sang the song Smelly Cats from the old show Friends that was a hoot and we had a Downeaster Cowboy that did a monologue and sang King of the Road that had people rolling in their seats. Our Sassy Senior Ladies Quartet sang a song about aging to the tune of These Are A Few Of My Favorite Things and one of them did a monologue about getting old which was very cute. Had a couple of gals do a violin/ flute duet and a little girl do her first piano solo. The look of relief on her face when she finished was priceless along with her parents who didn't take a breath the whole time she was playing! We had some more things but the ending act was just so good I could have hugged them all. There is a big family in our church and the children are very musically talented. They did the Good Bye song from the Sound Of Music and it was just adorable and so fitting for our ending act. I was so pleased with everyone and so appreciative of their willingness to participate in the show. We lost three acts due to sickness and one guy that is a pilot in the military had to fly that night but we still had enough and it went over well. It was fun. It's good to get together as a church family to laugh, have fun together and of course eat!

It's beautiful today with the temps getting up in the 50's. Husband just went for a walk down in the woods on the new carriage trails that we have had a crew working on this winter. We walked down there yesterday and although there is still some ice and snow we were able to get through some of them.

The trails are still rather rough and once everything dries out the guy will come in with some heavy equipment and smooth things out.

There was hardly a cloud in the sky, it was just so lovely out there.

There was this nurse tree that had something living in it. I didn't stick my hand down in there!!!!

If you look up in this tree you will see an illegal hunters tree stand. It is there without our permission so it is coming down. We really don't want hunters around when we are trail riding on our own property with our grandchildren. We don't know who put it there so we don't know who to contact to take it down so we'll take it down and give it to someone who can use it somewhere away from our land. There's plenty of land here in Maine to hunt on so it doesn't have to be on mine where people are hiking and horseback riding.

Guess that's it for today. We have to greet and usher tonight at church. Maybe we'll even take a drive by Dairy Queen on the way home.......

Wow...good food and good entertainment...what more could you ask for?

The photos of your property are beautiful. I know it's a lot of work to maintain but, as someone who lives on a postage stamp sized lot in urban America, I am so envious.

Sounds like Baptists in Maine are just like Baptists in Upstate NY :) What a fun time the talent show must've been.
We've lost a couple of families lately who moved south, so our church family is feeling "smaller". It's sad to lose members. We miss them a lot.
The trails must be wonderful to have close by.
We have hunters on our land, but they are always ask permission and bring us a token of their gratitude, which is really nice. They all seem very appreciative and well mannered. The person who built the tree stand obviously does NOT have good "hunting manners".
