The Bathing Suit Blues!

Now my least favorite thing to do in the whole wide world is getting into a bathing suit. The needle at the dentist office pales in comparison to the horror of the swimsuit. Now I had my day when I walked proudly along the beach but those days are long gone. LONG GONE! But, when your little granddaughter invites you to go swimming with her preschool group, of course you say "Yes, I'd love to dear"!

So camera in hand off I went with the dreaded swimsuit under my clothes so that I wouldn't have to change in front of anyone. Now I used to swim regularly with my sister Backhoe Mama when she lived in the area and it was with a group of women of all shapes, sizes and all over the age of 50. Now that is comforting knowing you're not going to be standing beside Miss Size 3 in a bikini the size of a postage stamp.

Anyhow I arrived at the appointed time to the delight of my granddaughter who promptly attached herself to my leg. The first half of swim time is their lesson so she had to unattach long enough to do that. It was so cute to see all of these 4 and 5 years olds swimming their little hearts out looking a lot like the old fashioned egg beaters we used to use with water going everywhere!

I have to admit they were doing a great job. I asked the instructor if there was an age limit in the class as it was just what I needed as I was rather rusty. I guess I am too old as she graciously turned me down on the prospect of joining the class.

After the lesson there was free swim and once again I had an attachment to my leg....I had to leave a couple minutes early to get to an appointment so there was a bit of discussion on removing said attachment but with promises of coming back again next week she let go and gave me a kiss goodbye.

I am so blessed to have my grandchildren living close by and to be able to participate in all of their activities.........even if it means getting into a bathing suit!!

Who Says You Can't Put A Shine On A Sneaker?

This was a day that we were giving the neighbors a hay ride. We feel like the couple on the old Green Acres Show!

This was a business convention in Arizona that we attended, this was the dressy night. I'd rather have been in my coveralls!

We saw some gorgeous horses while there at a big Arabian horse farm.



This horse was getting ready to go for a swim.

He didn't hesitate to go right in. It was a really hot day so it must have felt good.

What a life! These horses were worth $100,000.00 and up!

This yearling was for sale for $75,000.00 Needless to say there weren't any takers in our crowd!

Wordless Wednesday

I know I've already written a Wed. post but found my favorite pic of me and the grands and just had to put it in! It's a Grammie thing!

It's the 'I can't think of a name for it' post.

Had a scare in the night last night. The alarm system went off at about 3 AM and it registered that we had a propane leak. We have two fireplaces with propane inserts, one in the basement and one on the main floor and we were on the second floor. We jumped out of bed and the alarm company called to see if we needed the fire dept. but we said we'd check it out and call if need be.

It's been extremely cold and windy here the past couple of days and we think we got some back draft that sent some propane into the room and set off the alarm. We reset it, went back to bed and waited for it to go off again but thankfully it didn't. There have been some very tragic occurrences with propane and I can't emphasize enough how important it is to have a detector installed. We have the hardwired kind and also the battery kind in case the power goes off. Very small investment for a very important life saving device.

The grandkids are here today. They called this morning and wanted to come over and visit. Now, I'm not sure if it was me they wanted to visit or Noodles and Munchkin.....They seem to be a big attraction these days. Noodles loves all of the attention and jumps right in the middle of the excitement but Munchy is a bit more timid and when things get too wild she goes for parts unknown.

We have been doing crafts with old Christmas cards. I hate throwing anything out so have lots of old cards on hand. It's too cold to play outside today. They wanted lunch at 10 so now at noon they are having snacks, pecans and Ritz crackers. Now that's quite a combination but when you're at Grammies you kinda do what you want.....heehee! Dylan didn't want his picture taken as you can see.

I have been helping a friend clean out her mother's house as her mother passed away in September. She had lived in that house 75 years and was 99 years old. It has been quite a trip down memory lane for my friend as we have uncovered treasures from her past that she thought were long gone. We have chuckled over pictures of her hair styles in high school, (she is 75 now) admired some of the dresses she wore for special occasions that her mother had saved and were in an attic closet and shed a few tears for days gone by. How fast time goes by, it seems like in a blink of an eye my child is a grown man with children of his own. When going through the days of dirty diapers, fussy babies, and lack of sleep sometimes the days seem long but let me tell you it goes by way too fast and before you know it you're an empty nester. Now that is not all bad once you get used to it and thankfully if you are so blessed as to have grandkids you get a second chance to experience the fun times again. So today has been one of those fun times and when the little kiddos go home I'll clean up the house, sit on the sofa and 'rest' my eyes for a few minutes! Probably Noodles and Munchkin will curl up in my lap and 'rest' their eyes too!

The Curious Cat!

While trying to get some blog work done tonight I had a helper. The four legged kind, Noodles. When I was printing off some stuff he actually was trying to grab the paper as it came out. He was totally fascinated with the computer screen as you will see:

I guess he had never seen a computer before but he will watch tv sometimes with the same intensity. He finally settled down and just stayed on to be sociable.

I was going to post this recipe tomorrow but have to help a friend all day so will put it in tonight.

Mississippi Mud Pie

Buy a box of graham cracker crumbs and follow the directions on the box for a crust and pat it into a 9X13 pan.

1st layer:

two 8 oz. cream cheese softened

1 and 1/4 cups sugar

3/4 medium container of Cool Whip

Mix together with mixer and spread over crust layer

layer 2:

1- 6oz.chocolate instant pudding

1-6 oz. vanilla instant pudding

4 cups of milk

Mix together until thickened and spread over 1st layer

layer 3:

Spread with a small container of Cool Whip, garnish with grated Hershey Bar if desired.

Refrigerate.

I like to make it the day before as it sets up better and comes out of the pan better.
