Beautiful Maine

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!!!

In my quest for organization around here I have been going through lots of pictures. I came across these post cards that I picked up who knows where or who knows when, but they are so pretty and they show off at least part of our beautiful state so well that I wanted to share them with you.

Growing up in a small town of about 400 there wasn't much to do for a kid to earn any money but each summer we raked blueberries and used the money for new school clothes. It was hard work but we liked it as it was out in the sunshine on a beautiful farm way down at the end of a dirt road.

There are may harbors along the coast with boats like the ones you see here. Some are for lobstering, scalloping and fishing. There is fresh seafood in abundance here, the best in the world as far as I am concerned but I guess I would be a bit predudiced!

There are lots of puffins in Maine on the coast. They are beautiful birds and quite comical to watch.

There are many lighthouses!

They call it The Rocky Coast Of Maine for a reason as you can see. We do have beaches also but most of the coast is very rocky.

This is Thunder Hole in Acadia National Park. The way the waves come in here in makes a big booming sound like thunder. It is one of the popular sights in the park. If you stand too close you get soaked!

Nothing compares to the beauty of the coast of Maine in the fall of the year. The foliage is amazing with the reds, orange and green.

Another lighthouse. I wish I could say that I have been to them all but I haven't yet.

There are so many places to buy fresh seafood. Lots of people buy it right off the boats when the fishermen come in for the day.

The tide is out in this shot. Just one of the many old building along the coast that are so interesting and have so much character. A photographers dream come true!

I also found this picture of our lovely show mare Joe's Ginger Snap. We were in a trail class in this picture. She really excelled in Trail and I showed her in it often. I told Jen over at Copenhagen Kisses that I would put in a picture of me in chaps.......this was taken 137 gazillion years ago. I shudder to think if I had to try to get into them now!!! snicker, snicker!

T came over today and was playing out in the playhouse after school for a while with Noodles by her side. They are quite a pair.

I was out with them getting some pictures of the chickadees. I love chickadees, they are my favorite bird with their little black cap and tiny little beak. They sure go through a lot of seed each day, I don't know where they put it all as they don't take it and store it like some of the birds, they just eat and eat.

Again I hope you all have a nice Valentine's Day! Eat a few extra chocolates for me and my hips will thank you!! :o)

Thanks to Pea over at Pea's Corner for refreshing my memory on The Blessings Award! She was kind enough to give it to me and I wanted to be sure to say a big thank you to her for it. Pea is one of those people that everyone loves the minute they meet her. She has been so kind to me from the earliest days of my blogging endeavors and we have become such good friends. Thank you Pea for the award! You certainly have been a blessing to me and I value our friendship so much!

Now to keep the blessings going I need to pass it onto someone else. I truly am blessed by all of you that I blog with but I think my friend
Needled Mom would certainly enjoy this special award. As I stated back a few posts ago we met at the convention that we go to each year and have become such good friends. She has done so many things for me even making a video of a quilting technique called Paper Piecing for me the first week we met and sent it all the way from California to Maine for me! Thanks NM! Now you have to pass it along to someone else and keep those blessing going!

Somehow I zipped right by my 200th post and this is my 243! I think when I get to 250 I will have a Give Away. Actually I think I will have two things to give away, one for the horse crowd and one for all the others. I don't know yet what it will be but will let you know so keep watch for the details! I just can't believe I have come up with enough foolishness to fill 243 posts! Thank you to those of you that faithfully come by and leave comments. And to those of you that just come by, I know who you are!!!!

Does anyone know if we ever are going to get Spell Check back again??? I am seriously thinking of changing to something else so that I will have it. I MISS MY SPELL CHECK!!!

Horse people, check out my horse quirks two posts back.

The Father Daughter Valentine Dance

As you know we were in Florida at a convention recently. One of the gifts that they gave us is a little 30 minute camcorder called a Flip. It's only a bit bigger then a cell phone so you can keep it in your purse and use it when you see something cute like Macy the receptionist dog at my chiropractor's office. This was the first time I used it and I wanted to see if I could get it to work on my blog and it seems to be doing that so it's hard telling what snippets you may be seeing in the future! I wish I had had it with me the week before as Macy had on a tutu! She really doesn't have the figure for a tutu but that makes it all the cuter! :o) Let me know if this worked.

Last night was the Father/Daughter Valentine Dance. T and Daddy were going so I hopped in the car and drove over to their house (too much snow to walk through the woods these days) to take some pictures. SOME being MANY! Let a grandmother loose with a camera on a special occasion and no stone is left unturned! Did that make sense? Did I use the wrong analogy? Anywho, you get my drift.....

T and Daddy
The white part of her dress had sparklies! Oh, how I love this girly stuff!!

I said to her "how about a pose"

I had to get a close up of the hair, it was so cute the way DIL had styled it.

The little tierra was the finishing touch!

Cousin Z and her Daddy went with them which made it even more fun!

They went out to dinner at Bug*a boo Cre*ek and then on to the dance where the girls immediately ran off to visit with their friends and giggle, but they did get some dances in with their Dads. Such a special time for a Dad and daughter. :o)

We're expecting more snow tonight and then again on Tuesday. I can see some snowmobiling in the near future! Yippee!

PS Horse Blog Buddies I did the 7 horse quirks if you go back a post or two.

Horse Stuff

I haven't done a horse post for quite some time. With things pretty quiet in the health department with all five of my guys and no trail riding due to the snow there hasn't been too much to write about. I'm not complaining, believe me after last winter with the strangles and then Buddy's ordeal with founder all summer I am happy to have it quiet.

Moose Buyer asked me recently how Buddy was doing. Thanks Moosie! Well my farrier got home from his convention and came over to put some shoes on Buddy a couple days ago. We don't usually like them on in the winter time as they are so slippery on the ice and they have to have little studs on them which can REALLY hurt if you get your foot stepped on. But Buddy was a bit sore from the uneven hard ground so the vet & farrier decided this was the best route to go.

They are rather interesting as they have a type of blue rubbery padding, a clear rubber frog supporter and then the shoe with the little round studs. I know some of your eyes are glazing over but hang with me I'm even going to show you a picture! Yes, I take pictures of these kinds of things as those of you who have been with me for a while know.

Hopefully this will give Buddy some needed protection so that the soreness clears up. If not, the farrier has a couple other ideas up his sleeve to try. If we should get more snow that stays on and not taken off by rain it's much easier on their feet as well. He's not terribly sore but just enough so that I notice he is a bit off.

I was tagged to do a meme concerning my horses quirks so here goes.

1. Skipper (Welsh pony) will not eat his wormer unless I make a molasses sandwich and hide the wormer in it. You can't get anywhere near his mouth with that syringe and I've squirted the wormer everywhere but in his mouth so this is how I do it now.

2. Lil' Bud (Morgan) guards the gate when it's time to come in at night and won't let the other horses by. He pins his ears right back and they don't dare to even try to get by him so we have to catch him so that they can come in.

3. Buddy drinks what he wants for water in the outside tub and then dumps the rest so that no one else has any. They still have water as they can come in the barn any time and drink out of their stall waterers but outside---no way!

4. Kipper (Welsh pony) when he gets nervous he gnaws on your hand if he gets the chance! He never bites but those teeth get a bit close if you let him when he is stressed. (stressed as in getting impatient waiting for his supper but I'm the same way so he comes well by it....)

5. Nick (thoroughbred/welsh) is a bit of a bully to the other two little guys and if I put out 6 piles of hay for them he will go right from one to the other chasing the little guys to the next one. I could put out 20 piles and he still would want what they are eating. He doesn't push Buddy around though, NO ONE gets Buddy away from his hay!

6. Skipper doesn't like his ears touched. When we first rescued him you couldn't get anywhere near them but with lots of quiet, gentle handling he is doing much better except for when we put his harness bridle on and he hates having that slide over his ears. We distract him with a handful of grain or a sugar cube and slip it on that way.

7. Nick doesn't like the rain. He will go stand in the barn and whinny for the rest of the guys but won't go out in the rain to be with them. I guess he wants them to come inside with him!

I was recently given an award by Jen over at Copenhagen Kisses. Thanks so much Jen, I will wear it proudly on my sidebar!! Jen is one of my newer bloggy friends and has a great site. Lots of great pictures of her horses, dogs, kiddos and hubby. She describes herself as 'a California country girl hitched to a Texas cowboy'. It gets real interesting around her place and makes for a fun read!!!

Now I have a confession to make. You've all heard the old saying that confession is good for the soul and bad for the reputation. My memory left with my waistline, probably neither one will ever be back, and I can't remember who was so nice to give me The Blessings Award which is the one with the lit candle on my sidebar. I have searched and searched all your blogs and just can't find the post in which it was given to me and I'd like to say thanks to the one who did!!!!! So please let me know so I can give you credit and thanks and then I can pass it on to someone else.

Still no spellcheck!!! Grrrrrr...

Convention Part Two

The best way to get around at the resort!

If you haven't looked at the first installment of my convention news please go back and see the beautiful flowers. They are just gorgeous! :O)

We saw lots and lots of beautiful palm trees while in Key Largo and each one reminded me of my blogging buddy Tina over at
Palm Tree Fanatic! Wish I could have sent some to you Tina! :O)

The weather was perfect and I didn't seem to mind the heat which was a blessing as usually anything over 60* is way too hot for me these days. Ahem.....you gals my age know what I am talking about......do these hot flashes EVER go away????!!!!!!

Of course we had to go down to the cat shelter and visit the kitties. Unfortunately we went on Saturday and they weren't open. Maybe that was a good thing after our fiasco bringing home our two rascals last year!

We did get to see a few that were outside and some that were in the spacious enclosed yard. They have done a great job cutting down on the unwanted cat population by spaying and neuturing as many as they can catch. They find homes for most of them and the rest will live out their lives there at the lovely cat rescue facility.

We drove down to Miami one afternoon and went to the beach. It was gorgeous there and we got our feet in the water. Afterwards we had a nice lunch at an outside cafe. Not being used to such traffic was challenging for me even though I wasn't even driving and challenging for poor Hubby watching me grabbing the dashboard constantly for fear we were going to be in an accident. It amazes me how people drive in big cities. If you try to leave a prudent space between you and the vehicle in front of you someone will squish right in there with nary a thought!

I love footprints in the sand, even my own!

Another thing I look forward to each year at the convention is meeting up with my dear friend Needled Mom! We both have been going to this event for many years with our husbands and even though we live on opposite coasts we have so much in common and look forward to our yearly visits! She is a new blogger and is doing just great getting around meeting lots of you. If you haven't had a chance to see her blog stop in and say hi. In this picture I am the one telling my Husband how to take the shot! lol!

Guess that's it for another chapter on the convention. Have a few more pictures I want to put in but that's for another day. Now I need to go out and take some snow pictures as we are having a fairly major storm. T had a dance program at school tonight but that has been canceled. The roads are slick. This is looking out my back window.

Is anyone else having trouble with Spell Check not working??? Please forgive all spelling errors, I don't have the energy to look up all the words!
