Awards, Deer and other Information

Tammy over at Family Doins' has awarded her regular readers with two nice awards recently. Thank you Tammy!!! One is the Excellent Award and the other is the You Make My Day Award. I liked how she put it in her post on why she was giving them to each one of her readers and I quote "Because if you see me replying on your blog more then once it is because you 'make my day' and because I think your blog is 'excellent'! Very well put Tammy and I shall follow suit for the same reason and award these to all of my regular readers!

Also Stephanie over at Mississippi Songbird has passed on three adorable awards to her regular readers. They are so cute and they are as follows:

Thanks so much Mississippi Songbird I will love to put them onto my sidebar as they are so cute! I especially like the one with the cat, of course! Who comes up with these ideas for awards? Someone must have a good imagination, I'd hate to think what it would look like if I tried to design an award and graphic! Hey, how about some horsey type awards.........hummmmm.......I'll have to give that some thought......


Lastly is my nieces new venture Chic-Critique which I told you about a couple posts ago. She and June are reviewing beauty products each week and giving an honest, non biased opinion on them. One review this week is on mascara which I have a love/hate relationship with. If I don't use it I look like I don't have any eyelashes but if I do use it I get clumps or it gets on my eye lid so I hopped over to Chic-Critique and read their recommendations and I'm going to give their suggestions a try!

Tonight the deer came shortly after I put their grain out instead of waiting till after dark. I ran for the camera and went upstairs to my bedroom and quietly slid open the sliding glass doors to get some shots. With their big ears they can hear everything so when Noodles and Munchie scooted out the door onto the deck and roof of the house it kept their attention so I could move around a bit and get some pretty good shots. It was at dusk so there wasn't much light but you can get a good idea of what we watch every night out back of the house. It's great entertainment.

Yummy grain from the feed store! They need it this year with all the snow we've had it's made it hard for them to get around and find food.



There goes a flag so she must have heard something! She is last springs baby so isn't quite a year old yet. I think she is one of the twins.


Here is Mom and she is expecting AGAIN. She had twins this past spring and they are still with her. Look at the size of her ears!

I'm glad we have 400 acres where they can live without fear of getting hunted! There are plenty of other places to hunt here in Maine. I'm not against hunting, I know the herds need to be kept at a reasonable size for the sake of them all but NOT MY DEER! They are my babies and I see them every day. At least I haven't named them............yet!

Friday Happenings

Any of you that know me well know that I have a soft spot in my heart the size of Texas for the animals of this world. Ever since I was a young child I have felt a bond with just about any animal I have come in contact with. We always had a number of pets ranging from guinea pigs, rabbits, dogs, cats and horses. As an adult I have had even more exotic type pets like iguanas and ferrets due to my son's interest in this kind of pet.

I say all this as a prelude to my news that I have been asked to serve on the board of directors for The Humane Society in the nearby city. To be honest I had to give this a lot of thought. It sometimes is easier if we don't know all that is going on. It's easier to hide our heads in the sand and think that all is well but that certainly isn't the case with our pet population. We all know that there is an over population of unwanted dogs and cats along with other pets that people can no longer keep for a myriad of reasons.

So, I decided to take my head out of the sand and to try to make a difference. I know there are going to be situations that are going to upset me horribly that I won't be able to get out of my mind. I know this is going to involve a lot of work but I think I can do it. I'm going to give it a try, that's all I can offer. Pray for me that I will do a good job and have something to contribute.

Woohoo! I had a package on my front porch the other day when I came home and it was from Chyrll over at Chyrll'sCorner! She had a Give Away a few weeks ago and I won the Joy of Cooking cookbook plus tea, cider mix and Cafe' Delight french vanilla Cappuccino!! Thanks so much Chryll for having such a fun give away and I will put the cookbook to good use!!! I will be having a give away in a few weeks to celebrate my 250th post so be sure and keep an eye out for that.

I think my kids are worried about me. Sometimes I think they have good reason. Dear DIL came over yesterday to drop off some jewelry that I had ordered from a jewelry party she had last week, which by the way is gorgeous, I will be posting about it next time, but I digress....

Anyway she was chuckling at the 'Valentines' that I had sent T and D. T's was fine but D's was a BIRTHDAY CARD...........need I say more........SIGH.......

It's a beautiful sunny day today. I need to get out and do my errands, the bank, return a dress that looks like something Great Grammie Hessie would wear, go to the feed store and pick up some Slim Fast at the grocery store. I had a camera class this morning instead of a computer class. It was really good and I learned what a lot of the settings are for on my camera. Now I need a tripod. Always something.

Noodles is one of my best subjects to photograph. He is very patient with a lens stuck in his face. Well, sort of patient. I think that ear is cocked a bit.

Here she comes again with that dang camera!

Beautiful Maine

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!!!

In my quest for organization around here I have been going through lots of pictures. I came across these post cards that I picked up who knows where or who knows when, but they are so pretty and they show off at least part of our beautiful state so well that I wanted to share them with you.

Growing up in a small town of about 400 there wasn't much to do for a kid to earn any money but each summer we raked blueberries and used the money for new school clothes. It was hard work but we liked it as it was out in the sunshine on a beautiful farm way down at the end of a dirt road.

There are may harbors along the coast with boats like the ones you see here. Some are for lobstering, scalloping and fishing. There is fresh seafood in abundance here, the best in the world as far as I am concerned but I guess I would be a bit predudiced!

There are lots of puffins in Maine on the coast. They are beautiful birds and quite comical to watch.

There are many lighthouses!

They call it The Rocky Coast Of Maine for a reason as you can see. We do have beaches also but most of the coast is very rocky.

This is Thunder Hole in Acadia National Park. The way the waves come in here in makes a big booming sound like thunder. It is one of the popular sights in the park. If you stand too close you get soaked!




Nothing compares to the beauty of the coast of Maine in the fall of the year. The foliage is amazing with the reds, orange and green.

Another lighthouse. I wish I could say that I have been to them all but I haven't yet.

There are so many places to buy fresh seafood. Lots of people buy it right off the boats when the fishermen come in for the day.

The tide is out in this shot. Just one of the many old building along the coast that are so interesting and have so much character. A photographers dream come true!

I also found this picture of our lovely show mare Joe's Ginger Snap. We were in a trail class in this picture. She really excelled in Trail and I showed her in it often. I told Jen over at Copenhagen Kisses that I would put in a picture of me in chaps.......this was taken 137 gazillion years ago. I shudder to think if I had to try to get into them now!!! snicker, snicker!

T came over today and was playing out in the playhouse after school for a while with Noodles by her side. They are quite a pair.

I was out with them getting some pictures of the chickadees. I love chickadees, they are my favorite bird with their little black cap and tiny little beak. They sure go through a lot of seed each day, I don't know where they put it all as they don't take it and store it like some of the birds, they just eat and eat.

Again I hope you all have a nice Valentine's Day! Eat a few extra chocolates for me and my hips will thank you!! :o)

Thanks to Pea over at Pea's Corner for refreshing my memory on The Blessings Award! She was kind enough to give it to me and I wanted to be sure to say a big thank you to her for it. Pea is one of those people that everyone loves the minute they meet her. She has been so kind to me from the earliest days of my blogging endeavors and we have become such good friends. Thank you Pea for the award! You certainly have been a blessing to me and I value our friendship so much!

Now to keep the blessings going I need to pass it onto someone else. I truly am blessed by all of you that I blog with but I think my friend Needled Mom would certainly enjoy this special award. As I stated back a few posts ago we met at the convention that we go to each year and have become such good friends. She has done so many things for me even making a video of a quilting technique called Paper Piecing for me the first week we met and sent it all the way from California to Maine for me! Thanks NM! Now you have to pass it along to someone else and keep those blessing going!

Somehow I zipped right by my 200th post and this is my 243! I think when I get to 250 I will have a Give Away. Actually I think I will have two things to give away, one for the horse crowd and one for all the others. I don't know yet what it will be but will let you know so keep watch for the details! I just can't believe I have come up with enough foolishness to fill 243 posts! Thank you to those of you that faithfully come by and leave comments. And to those of you that just come by, I know who you are!!!!

Does anyone know if we ever are going to get Spell Check back again??? I am seriously thinking of changing to something else so that I will have it. I MISS MY SPELL CHECK!!!

The Father Daughter Valentine Dance

As you know we were in Florida at a convention recently. One of the gifts that they gave us is a little 30 minute camcorder called a Flip. It's only a bit bigger then a cell phone so you can keep it in your purse and use it when you see something cute like Macy the receptionist dog at my chiropractor's office. This was the first time I used it and I wanted to see if I could get it to work on my blog and it seems to be doing that so it's hard telling what snippets you may be seeing in the future! I wish I had had it with me the week before as Macy had on a tutu! She really doesn't have the figure for a tutu but that makes it all the cuter! :o) Let me know if this worked.

Last night was the Father/Daughter Valentine Dance. T and Daddy were going so I hopped in the car and drove over to their house (too much snow to walk through the woods these days) to take some pictures. SOME being MANY! Let a grandmother loose with a camera on a special occasion and no stone is left unturned! Did that make sense? Did I use the wrong analogy? Anywho, you get my drift.....

They went out to dinner at Bug*a boo Cre*ek and then on to the dance where the girls immediately ran off to visit with their friends and giggle, but they did get some dances in with their Dads. Such a special time for a Dad and daughter. :o)

We're expecting more snow tonight and then again on Tuesday. I can see some snowmobiling in the near future! Yippee!
